Sunset

We sat in the flowers for a while. It was the most wonderful time being able to spend it with my sister on our own. We made it home many hours before sunset came. On our walk, Nadine's stare was distant. I could tell that what Will said in the fields was still plaguing her mind. After we both returned to our rooms, she needed time to think. I spent my time sitting near my doorway waiting for WIll to return home. I knew if he was even a second after sunset, Father would be furious. I sat in my anxiety, waiting for the sound of a closing door in the front room.

Right before sunset hit I finally heard it. The door slams closed in the front room, and I take a peek out of my door. It was Will, returning to the home. I breathed a sigh of relief, but I was a little perplexed by what he had over his body. Covered in a thick coat of dirt... and what looks to be blood. I wasn't about to ask him what had put him in that state. I'm sure Nadine will if she catches a glance of him. Mear seconds after Wills return home, I heard the bell.

Dinner time.

I made my way down to the table, the first to arrive. The light from the sunset peering in our large windows inside the dining room tinting the room in red light. My parents then arrive even before Nadine. It surprised me to see them so early. They both sat in silence until my other two siblings appeared. Nadine sat directly across from me, and WIll, fresh from his shower, sat next to her.

They held dinner in silence, much like all other dinners. We could do small talk if it pleased us too, but most times we decided it was better not to speak while around our parents. We couldn't get in trouble for our words that way. I ate dinner quickly, and as soon as I was at the table, I was back inside my room.

I just want to go to sleep. I feel so tired, so I lay myself down in my bed, and almost in no time at all pass out. It was not a long slumber. I've been plagued by night terrors lately. It seems every time I lay down to sleep now; I end up watching the same dream play itself inside my head.

I dream that Will is taking Nadine from me. That he wraps her up in his arms and steals her away out of the house. I try my best to get to him, but my legs are too heavy to hurry, and when I finally get to the door to go out and save her, the door is closed and unable to be opened. With that, I jump up in my bed, woken from my slumber by the thought of losing my dear sister.

I let out a loud sigh before rushing to my feet and out of my door. I run down the two sets of stairs that follow the front room, and down into that front room. I franticly pull on the knob of the door to make sure they locked it. While I was franticly pulling on that knob I hear a soft voice behind me, and goosebumps cover my body.

"Good morning, Gento. Did you sleep well?" There standing at the very top of the stairs, staring down at me with her big blue eyes was Nadine. She makes her way down the stairs until she is face to face with me.

I give a grin and nod at her. "Y-Yeah... I slept fine... that's why I'm up so early. I feel so rested." I give a bit of a fake laugh as I lie between my teeth. I can not have her worrying about my silly nightmares.

Nadine then grabs my hand and leads me into the kitchen. "Would you want to go to the field again today? I planted a few new seeds and I would like to water them." Nadine's soft voice echos through the house as we walk into our kitchen. I nod, agreeing we should head there again. She grabs her breakfast of choice, an apple. I make a peanut butter sandwich, and we both eat in quiet, waiting for Will to make his appearance.

"I don't think he's coming today. " I say, hoping this will push us into going into the field on our own.

Nadine gives off a sigh as she finishes her apple. "Would you want to go with just us? I think Will probably just needs time on his own."

My face lights up more than I should have let it. "I would like that. " I muttered as I finish my sandwich. Being able to go off with Nadine by myself. No big-headed Will to ruin the day. Just us. This will be the perfect day.
