12:48 PM, about 23 hours before death

Lelouch sat on the ground, facing up toward the sky.

His eyes were closed, feeling only the slight breeze that blew and the sweet, yet soft, scent of roses wafting lazily from the garden around him.

It was a gorgeous day.

Lelouch tilted his head back when he heard C.C. walking toward him from where Suzaku stood like a statue, his fur cape dancing slowly in the wind. Lelouch lay his head on C.C.'s lap.

"What did you two talk about?"

Lelouch traced circles in the tall grass.

"Suzaku said he wished it was his head in my lap instead of yours."

Lelouch grinned lazily, not responding. His mind had already carried him elsewhere.

He wished desperately Nunnally was here next to him, in a beautiful silk gown, sitting on a soft blanket in the meadow, making him laugh and cry and love.

Yet, she was in a cell somewhere, hating her brother with all her heart.

"Doesn't that cloud look so sad, all alone?"

C.C.'s words woke Lelouch up from his daydream. He looked in the direction where she pointed, and frowned.

"I like it better than the big mass blocking the sun."

"Yes, so do I."
