"Checkmate."

Lelouch watched the man seated in front of him leap up, his mouth agape and spluttering. He was already bored.

"B-but, how? When did you have your rook there? Is this a trick?"

Lelouch sighed, deciding not to explain his tactic.

Boring.

Boring.

Boring.

With a wave of his majestic hand, Lelouch had the man dismissed, the noble walking angrily out of the grand door.

"Bring in Schneizel, please."

No one was any fun.

"Your majesty." Lelouch watched as Schneizel bowed before him, his long legs sweeping into an elegant incline. He also felt Suzaku stiffen beside him.

Finally, a worthy opponent.

~

"Checkmate."

Schneizel said, his voice sounding duller and duller under his red rimmed pupils. Lelouch clasped his hands together, glancing at the board.

He had won the last game, and now, he had lost. But, this is just what he wanted.

He'll lose gracefully today, and tomorrow, crush his opponent.

It would be much more satisfying that way.

Lelouch stood up, beckoning towards C.C., who sat on a chair on the opposite side of the room, with a maid, the maid's nimble hands sewing a hat for Cheese-kun. C.C. raised a finger toward her lip, telling Lelouch to shush up. She seemed very focused on the dull task of a needle weaving in and out of a piece of cloth.

Lelouch felt the all-too-familiar scowl grace his face, and he sighed.

She may be the only person in the world right now who dare ignore the emperor, in fact even tell him he was annoying her.

Lelouch smiled, crossing his arms over his chest. It was refreshing.

He swept out of the room, with Suzaku trailing behind him.

Suit herself.

She always knew where to find him anyway.
