For awhile, she held out onto the tiny hope that Bertholdt and Reiner could be convinced to fight alongside with her, she thought that she would be able to convince her warrior teammates about Marley's cruelty and plant the seeds of rebellion within them against the Marleyan nation.
She thought about what could this mean for their families back at Marley, but she thought that maybe they could figure out a way to rescue them.
Why did Annie care? Why did she care to consider telling her partners about Marley's cruelty, and about what happened to her father? She was never close to them to begin with, and neither did she share any so-called "special bond" with her warrior teammates.
Annie was distant from her warrior teammates, this was something that she didn't deny, but...... she wasn't as distant to them as she was 5 years ago. It was true that she shared no special bond with them, but that didn't mean that she wasn't connected to them in some way, they were all connected by their tragic pasts and the persecution that they had to endure, and by the guilt that tore them from the inside. Annie grew to care about them, enough to make sure that she would complete the mission so they would all go back to their hometown safely.
They were just like her, they wanted to go back to their hometown, they all wanted to see their families again, Bertholdt wanted to see his ailing father and Reiner, his worrying mother. She felt her guilt weigh down on her, despite the fact that she knew that whatever would befall them would be justified, they would hate her because of what she did and she wouldn't blame them, not one bit.
The Survey Corps descended down from the trees in terrifying speed, all what they would have to do is deal the killing blow to the two most dangerous Titans who ever walked this earth. Annie would look away as her warrior teammates died instantly (or painfully), unable to look at their eyes as they breathed their last.
However, her short moment of hesitation, the time she wasted trying to coerce them to rebellion, gave Reiner a slim chance.
Her short moment of hesitation allowed Reiner to reach out for his thumb, he instantly bit it and she would've sworn that she heard his teeth chomp through his skin and unto his flesh. Blood was instantly drawn from his injury, but lightning instantly appeared, signaling his transformation.
Annie felt her heart drop and her blood run cold, her face paled and her eyes widened in horror.
Reiner's transformation was going to leave many people dead, all because of her.
Her mind went into overdrive as her eyes frantically searched for a certain person, she quickly found Armin who was descending alongside Mikasa, their faces how confused they were.
Without wasting anymore time, Annie quickly grappled to the nearest tree and launched herself towards the duo, she was able to catch them immediately and she held unto them with her two free hands.
"A-Annie?!". Armin stammered in confusion.
"EREN!". Annie shouted to warn the Jaeger boy.
Eren dragged his widened eyes towards the despaired Leonhart girl, the tone she spoke in made Eren realize the sudden gravity of the situation.
He was able to instantly put two and two together, transforming into a Titan would often leave some damage to the area the shifter transformed on, but given that the Colossus Titan was the largest Titan to ever exist; then the damage that Reiner will leave would be in a much bigger scale.
The least thing that he and Annie could do is transform, so they could be able to shield some of the soldiers who were on their way.
Some, but not all.
