The women regarded me with a look of shock, her hands grasped around a pen as she quickly squiggled notes onto the notebook she believed was required for our little session. She fit the pristine ideology of what you'd expect a therapist to look like, and her mannerisms contained upmost professionalism with a leg suited comfortably crossed over the other, with her posture as straight as a board.
After a few moments, she cleared her throat and dropped her pen back onto the desk. Her attention completely divided into me, she began her questioning once again. "Do you hear voices from this faceless man?"
My palms began to sweat, hairs on the back of my head standing on end as I attempt to picture the creature in it's glory, it's presence, the frightening aura it gave off that was similar to Jeff's but so, so, inhumanly different - more like an out worldly creature not destined on earth. I thought of believable ways to word my thoughts but came up empty minded. Instead, I opted for the cold, hard, truth like bowl of icy cold water thrown over your head like a reality check.
"..voices? No, no.. unless you count a continuous static as 'voices', no."
"Static? Interesting. Would you mind explaining this further for me - as in when this static occurs, and how long it usually lasts for?"
My eyes twitched in irritation, my hands unbeknownst clenching into a tight fist underneath the desk. The static was a constant familiar, forever there yet somewhat comforting in the way it caressed my mind in an embrace underwater. An embrace that was bearable when the static was only a dull reminder, however, not when it became a tropical storm whenever I saw the creature. That was a completely different feeling. It was more of an engulfing emotion - as if it was attempting to pull me into the depths of the ocean only without a lifejacket.
"Constantly. It's always there - like-like a reminder of some sort, "I answered, watching the woman quickly write the words down as if they were her only life line, "or a warning."
She smiled comfortingly; sympathetically, dropping the pen as she one again regarded all of her attention onto me. As if she had any fucking clue what I was going on to begin with, "Warning for what?"
"I don't know. But I think it wants me. Wants to take me."
"Take you where?"
I wracked my brain for an answer, thinking deeply, painfully of what it could ever want for me. And I came up blank, like a blank, empty canvas wanting to be painted on. I had no idea what the creature wanted. Hell, I had no idea what Jeff wanted. I was just a pawn on a game of chess. Clueless, and almost defeated.
I scoffed, attempting to divert the subject, "I don't know, just let me walk up to a faceless man and ask him what he wants. I'm sure he can grow a mouth and tell me, right?"
Her lips turned into a line, her eyes still pointed on her notebook as she wrote down some last finishing notes, "We're done for the day. I am going to suggest the doctors keep you in for overnight observation as we discuss the next steps from here. It was pleasant meeting you, Alice. Hopefully we can provide you the help you need."
My temper ticked over the edge, my hands slamming quickly on the handles of the chair, "You can't help me!" The woman's widened eyes stayed pinpointed onto my figure, and anger engulfed me fully, "You all think I'm batshit crazy! But I'm not! I'm fucking not!"
My teeth clenched painfully, watching the woman attempt to approach the door of the room carefully, as if she was stuck in a room with a predator and she was the prey. She attempted to seem as if she was calm, as if she was the peaceful waves in a storm less ocean. But I knew better, I could see through her facade to the brief shake of her hands, to her eyes darting across the room for a makeshift weapon if she would need it.
The static hummed in pleasure, urging me to do something I would regret. I remained still, the drum of my heart injecting my body into an adrenaline filled state.
"Leave." I demanded, my voice shaking in an attempt to control myself through an urge I didn't understand. I watched dangerously as she pursed her lips, turning and leaving through the door in a quick pace.
