kishibe lived with his grandmother near the woods. they couldn't afford have their own house inside the inzuma village.
a house that is made of sticks, that couldn't support them in every storm that erupts almost everyday.
it was hard, very hard. kishibe's grandmother was ill and he wasn't able to send her to the hospital to get treatment because they were tight in money, and he was also recently fired at his job on the inazuma local store for just accidentally breaking the glass door because he forgot the keys inside.
the only way he could support the both of them was catching fish beside where he built their house and selling it in the town.
but that didn't stop the boy from exploring the world, even if it's just in books. he dreamt of sailing around the world one day, he wished to see every single thing about the world he lived in. to discover wonders that people wasn't even able to find.
kishibe's grandmother knew about his dream and she was sadden that she was the reason that the poor boy couldn't achieve his dream. taking care of an old lady like herself is hard work and even more work if kishibe decided to bring her along with him.
she told him once that he could just leave her behind; "i don't really have much time left, it would be just a waste of time for you to take care of me.."
kishibe only smiled in response, as he damp a wet cloth on her face. "grandma don't say that.. you're the only family i have left. i don't want you to leave me too.."
he tried hard not to cry in front of her. as much as he wants to go and achieve his dreams, he couldn't just leave his family.
"i'll find a medicine that would cure you, then we could explore the world together!" kishibe said, smiling at her. "that's a promise!"
the old lady chuckled, engulfing kishibe into a tight hug. "you sweet sweet boy.."
a sudden loud noise broke them from their hug, as kishibe quickly put his shoes on. "i'm off to work now grandma!"
giving the old lady a kiss on the forehead, he set out to the village. carrying out a big basket full of fish he caught earlier.
his stall was next to a boy named tenma, who sells crabs that were caught by the tsurugi brothers; yuuichi and kyousuke.
"ah! kishibe-kun! there you are!" tenma called out as he saw kishibe with a large basket on hand.
"you're almost late!"
"i'm sorry, i was taking care of grandma that i lost track of time." he said, setting out the fresh fish in his stall.
"is she alright?" tenma asked, looking worriedly at his friend, he only knew kishibe for about 3 months now but he knew how the boy was struggling to survive.
"she's fine, getting better actually!" kishibe grinned, giving the fish a rinse of water.
"that's good to hear.."
kishibe looks at tenma before asking, "by the way, where's tsurugi and yu—
"there's a fire outside the village!"
