I woke up to the smell of cleaning supplies and disinfectant. I could hear others in the room but I couldn't really see anything. Where my eyes still closed? I was sure I had opened them.
"Loya..." Bakugou's voice sounded upset.
I felt his hand in mine and I knew my eyes were open. "Bakugou? What happened?"
"It's my fault..." he put my hand to his forehead. "It's all my fault..."
"Bakugou! Stop that! You're scaring me!" I said, my voice shaking.
"Bakugou," RaidoHead's voice said quietly. "Let's go..."
"What's wrong?" I asked. Sempai RadioHead was never, ever quiet and he sounded like his volume was down at 1 when it was normally 100.
"I won't leave her!" Bakugou yelled at him. "It's my fault this happened!"
"Hello, Miss Kirishima. It's good to see you awake again," Recovery Girl said. "You've been out for a long time. I wasn't sure you'd wake up."
"Recovery girl, will you tell me what's going on? The last thing I remember is going to watch Class A train."
"Oh my... Perhaps it would be better if I let one of your professors tell you what happened..."
"Would someone just tell me? My boyfriend is blaming himself for me being in the fucking hospital and even Radio Head is being solemn!"
There was a silent pause in the room for a moment as they processed me cussing at them. Radio head was the one to break the silence. "You were hurt in one of the explosions. Bakugou was fighting with Madoriya and they went too far. They hit the stands and you were the only one there. When Mr. Kirishima pulled you out, you were short an arm and you were bleeding from the eyes. We rushed you to Recovery Girl but there wasn't much she could do except bandage you up."
"So..." I reached up with my free hand touched my face. My eyes were wide open but it was still as dark as could be. "I'm blind..."
"For now, at least," Recovery Girl said. "It may not last but we don't know yet."
I had a felling it would last. I tried to blink the darkness away but it didn't work. I could feel tears well in my eyes.
Suddenly Bakugou's arms were around me. "I'm sorry, Loya." He sniffled and he whispered the words repeatedly in my ear. "I'm sorry."
I held Bakugou's arm as he led me to my room. I'd finally been let out of the hospital wing after staying there for a week. Bakugou had refused to leave my side the entire time. "You don't have to stay, Bakugou..."
"You helped me when I was sick, now it's my turn." Bakugou led me into my room and helped me sit down on the bed. "You can rely on me."
"But I'm not sick, Bakugou. I'm blind. Big difference." I layed back on my bed and found my back touching something small hard and squarish. "What did I lay on?" I asked with a sigh.
Bakugou picked it up. "It was a gift I got you for our one month... It's a new ear piercing."
"Oh... what does it look like..."
"it's a new bar. It's the dark red you like instead of the black one you had in that didn't match the others. It's still just an arrow but I thought you'd like it."
"I love it... can you put it in for me?"
"Y-yeah." He moved my hair and took the bar out of my ear. He carefully placed the new arrow in my ear. "What should I do with the old one?"
"There should be a jewelry box on my desk. It goes in the top drawer."
He sat back down beside me. "So... do you think there's an animal that could help regenerate your eyes?"
"No. Most animals I can regenerate limbs but eyes...? I don't have the time to try so many animals..."
"Sure you do." Bakugou put an arm around me. "You can try a different animal every day until your better."
"No. I have to learn to live without sight..."
"But we could-"
"Stop it! Just stop it, Bakugou!" I screamed as tears wet the bandage over my unseeing eyes. "My sight isn't going to come back! I can just sit around hoping that things get better! Or praying we find an animal that can heal its eyes! I'm blind for good so stop trying to get me to try!"
"You're supposed to give it your all, Loya! If you won't even let me try to help you through this to heal then how can you say that we are giving it our all? What ever happened to plus ultra?"
"Plus ultra? Are you a fucking dumb ass? I can't even be a god damn hero like this so I can fucking forget about going plus fucking ultra!" I pushed him away and searched for the bear he had won me on our fist date. I found it and curled up into the fetal position. I hit the floor hard when I fell off the edge of the bed. I threw to bear forward and pulled my knees to my chest, crying.
Bakugou screamed in frustration and blewsomething up. "Why do you want me to give up so bad?"
"Because I have!" I screamed back, throwing myself back up against the bed.
"Of course you have..." Bakugou said calmly. "You're not even strong enough to try."
