When I opened the door, I instantly realize that my roommate has already arrived. I pulled out my keys from the lock and went inside. The bed on the right side of the room was messy. There were piles of clothes on the floor by the bed. The walls are already covered with music posters. One look on the room and I am convinced that she is not a tidy person at all. It looks like she has unpacked her bags on the floor and the desk, it feels like as if she has threw books carelessly on the desk as some of them were half opened and upside down. This is definitely not what I expected.
Great.
I put down my bags and flop down on my bed. I hope that the college will not surprise me anymore. With a tired sigh I got up from bare bed and started unpacking. I hanged my clothes neatly in the closet, put a sheet on bed along with my stuff toy, and made my side of the room comfortable enough for me.
As soon as I pulled out my planner from my bag I hear the door unlock and a girl enters the room. Without noticing my presence in the room, she lay across her bed and gives an exhausted sigh. A few seconds later, she opened her blue eyes when she felt the presence of someone else in the room.
"Oh hey!" she said and closed her eyes again.
"Hi!" I said as she got up to sit against the headboard of her bed. Her light brown curls falling on her shoulders. She is wearing a purple tank top and white jeans and I must say she is so beautiful with her blue eyes lined with a brown eye liner matching her hair color.
"I'm Olivia" she told me with a tired smile on her face.
"Ella... I mean Ellanor" I told her.
"Well Ella, welcome to WSU" she walks over, covering the distance between us and wraps her arms around me. I am surprised by her kind gesture. Her looks and exquisite beauty has given me the idea that she must be very popular among the students but I am taken aback by her kind gesture. She pulled back.
"You are going to have so much fun here... "She stopped talking when she hears her phone ringing. She takes the phone from the bed, where she has thrown it earlier. She was staring at the screen when she said "gotta go, we will continue this later" and left the room without giving me a moment to reply
"I hope so" I said silently, almost to myself, standing by the side of my bed with my planner still in my hand.
I lay down the bed, looking around this tiny room. Emptiness and loneliness has never bothered me but today I wanted her to stay. The way she welcomed me and then gone the whole time, I am having a feeling that she is really social. Maybe she will be gone often or worse she may have company over too. I am trying my best not to over think about her. I took a book from my bedside table and started reading it with a hope that college will be everything I have wanted it to be.
. . . . .
I wake up and rub off the sleep from my eyes. I slept surprisingly well in my new room. I slip out of my bed and I notice that Olivia's bed is till empty. Considering she is the type of girl, spending night outside, I decided it will be good if we don't get too close. With a change of clothes I step into the bathroom for a hot shower before starting this new day.
I step outside the dorm building and take a moment to admire the campus. The campus is covered in large trees with orange and yellow leaves considering the winter is just around the corner. Tall buildings touching the blue sky. The freshmen rushing frantically around with a strange look on their face, a look which is a mixture of nervousness and excitedness both. The green grass shining under the bright sun giving me a feeling that this is going to be a good day, it has to be.
I am walking towards the building and regretting my choice of clothes, it's quite cold outside. I am entering the building making my way towards the front desk. At the desk I state my subjects and receive my timetable. I thanked her but she didn't look up. I turn around and start reading it. I realize I still have 30 minutes spared before my first class so I decided to get a coffee to give my day a good start.
It was a five minute walk to small cafe, inside the campus. I push opened the glass door and enter the cafe. The interior is small and warm. It is much less crowded than I expected it to be. I reach the counter and ordered a black coffee. The girl takes my order and turned to prepare it. I start looking around, analyzing my surroundings silently, and watching people gossiping with a cup of coffee in their hands, unaffected by my eyes looking at them. I snap out of my thoughts when she placed my coffee in front of me on the counter. The aroma of coffee, in this chilly weather gives a warm feeling. I take the cup and turned around smelling it, when someone bumped into me, making me lose my grip on the cup and the whole coffee spilled on me.
