Fargo

If I'm ever going to write a screenplay, Fargo would be the first movie I'd watch to freshen my imagination whilst giving me an expertly crafted 98 - minute masterpiece.

Fargo is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen. I'm confident in saying this because the movie is easily accessible to major audiences without sacrificing any of the content. Everyone is solely entitled to their own opinions but in my mind this film is flawlessly executed in every way from the directing, writing, acting, score, cinematography, tone, atmosphere - you name it.

The film is directed by the Coen brothers, and oh boy, they know exactly what they're doing. The entire movie combines elements of dark subject matter and grim themes with the colorful, satirical and comedic world of the characters and atmosphere. Even though these ideas are so drastically different, they hold the same tone throughout the entire movie, never letting it slip. All of the actors were masterfully directed, even smaller characters and extras who don't have huge amounts of screen time give it their all.

The screenplay won an Oscar at the 1997 Academy Awards and I am so glad it did; the Academy Awards are already nonsense at it is, it would've been idiotic to not award the screenplay. The Coens are literally the only people on this Earth that could've written such a story and accomplished what they did so well. The first scene is a prime example of how careful the screenplay has been written, with every bit of dialogue furthering the characters and the plot details.

Out of all the movie actresses, Frances McDormand is the only movie star who could've played the part of pregnant sheriff Marge from North Dakota. Her performance is pitch perfect. Her character is consistently written which gives Frances McDormand excellent material for her to really bring her character to life. With another actress the character might've become too much like a cartoon, but she plays the part so convincingly that I completely believed everything she was saying. William H. Macy also does a fantastic job at playing a pretty intense character that makes many controversial decisions in the movie, and every single one feels 'in character.'

Along with the already mastered tone and direction, the original score for the film is beautiful and comforting but also epic near the main part of the music. The main score feels as if it were to be used in a completely dead serious crime thriller, but for some reason it just perfectly fits into this dark comedy without even trying to sound comedic. This movie is such a delight.

Fargo is art and entertainment, and thank goodness it is. The Coen brother's constantly bounce between serious thrillers/dramas and comedies, so it is so satisfying to see the two being combined for a truly unique experience unlike any other major motion picture. It is certain to win over most (I would hope all) people with it's specific Coen brothers' humor, thrills, violence and charm.
