The Great Pumpkin from "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is not a figment of Linus's imagination.
The Great Pumpkin is actually a pumpkin possessed by an alien. Apparently it ate all of the adult's. This is why we do not see the adult's. But who in the hell is talking "Wawawawa"?!
All the children were asleep at the time. All except for Linus!! He witnessed everything!!!
So, in order to keep it at bay, he ask's all the children of the neighhood if they want to see the Great Pumpkin every Halloween. So it could feed.
Not really the best theory, but still pretty interesting. :-)
