On my eleventh birthday I received a surprising letter from a place called "Hogwarts" proclaiming that I was a witch and that I had been accepted to their school of "Witchcraft and Wizardry". Which considering my family were all non magical with as far as they were both considered absolutely certain that no one in the family was a witch before, it took us all of us all summer to accept the fact that I was a witch and what we were going to do. I had just gotten accepted into a private school for girls but I also didn't want to leave all of my friends behind nor did I want to leave my family behind either especially my little sister.
But here we are at Kings Cross Station searching for platform 9 3/4 with no such luck, I was starting to go red in the face with all the strange looks for having an owl with me. We tried asking one of the guards except he just made us feel even more like fools that was until we caught a family run into the brick wall between platform 9 and 10 so we gave it a go. I swore that we were going to crash into it but instead we walked through it as well and a brilliant scarlet red steam engine was off to our left saying "Hogwarts Express" and that was the exact moment that I first time I've felt excited about this new school.
There was lots of people bustling around to get everyone's trunks loaded and ready to go; there were loads of kids around my age and even some younger who, like my sister, were looking sad that their older sibling(s) got to go to this odd school. I glance at the clock, 10:55 AM, and give them a hug then my sister.
I sigh, "Right I best board the train before I miss it, I'll write as much as I can about what the new school is like. I promise!"
"Remember to dress warmly, do your best, and do be safe my darling." My mom gives me a kiss on the cheek and adjusts my hat.
"Stay out of trouble young lady, we don't need a repeat of what happened at your last school now do we?" dad gives me a pat on the shoulder then a quick wink.
"I'm going to miss you! Why can't I go with you?!" my little sister cries out as she tries to hold on tight to me.
"Amelia! I've got to go! I promise to send you lots of little gifts when I can! Besides who knows maybe in a couple years you'll be coming with me, be good for mum and dad will you, now I've really got to go!" I kiss her cheek then pull away as quickly as possible to avoid her hugging me again.
If she latches on to me again then she just might actually come with me when she's not supposed to. I board the train immediately and find a compartment that only had one black haired boy with round glasses, his clothes were rather... ratty and old looking but that didn't matter much so I sat across from him then wave goodbye to my family as the train starts moving. It's rather quiet in the compartment so I look at the boy and give a small smile
"Hello, my name is Seronia Delatago and yours?" I place my hand out for him to shake and he frowns a little.
"Harry. Harry Potter. Is this your first year at Hogwarts too?" his voice sounds a little confused but he shakes my hand anyways.
"Yes, it's my first year although my parents don't have a drop of magic in their blood so it came as a shock now didn't it?" I chuckle awkwardly and glance out the window.
"You're not? You're not going to ask about my parents and what happened?" now he really sounds confused.
"No, but why would I? Seems rather rude in my opinion." I say casually.
Harry makes a funny face but doesn't say anything else and just leaves the conversation at that which left a rather awkward feeling in the small room. It didn't last long as a red haired boy with a bit of dirt on his nose came into the room so I took that as an opportunity to leave promptly. I didn't say a word to anyone as I wandered up and down the small hallways of the train taking a glance into the different compartments to see children of all ages sitting together, I had bumped into a girl with bushy hair who asked me if I had seen a toad. I hadn't but I told her that I would keep an eye out for one and let her know if I had found it or not. Satisfied with my answer she kept going and asking other people about it.
