Still in the past...
we get to see how much our boys have grown and matured from those early days together.

⚠️Trigger Warning ⚠️

There are some very emotional moments in this chapter that discuss homelessness and struggling to survive.
Please be aware and don't read if you feel it will adversely effect your mental health.
I will post a warning right before the section if you want to avoid it and an all clear when you can go back to the story.

"OUCH! Are you trying to help me or finish me off!" Gulf said as Mew dabbed antiseptic on the cut above his eyebrow.

"Well if you would sit still and stop fidgeting I could be more careful." Mew said in an exasperated tone as the boy continued to squirm and complain. He hadn't stopped bitching since Mew and Zee helped him into the bars small back office.

"Look I already told you I'm fine and I don't need your help!" Gulf said pushing Mew's hand away and jumping to his feet. Mew stepped back and put his hands up as Gulf winced in pain an slumped to the floor.

Watching from the doorway of the office Zee rushed forward helping Gulf back to the couch while admonishing his friends recklessness "Mew what the hell! You know he's probably got bruised, if not broken ribs and you just let him do that!"

"How is that MY fault! I didn't tell him to jump around like a damn jack rabbit. I was trying to help him and he decided he didn't need it so there you go!" Mew said pointing toward Gulf and trying to defend his inaction.

"So there you go! What are you 5yrs old on the play ground arguing over who's IT in the next round of tag. He's hurt and you made the decision to step in and help him so man the fuck up and help him! You should know better!" Zee said throwing the roll of KT tape at Mew's chest.

Gulf who had been quiet throughout this entire back and forth exchange finally spoke as Zee walked out of the room in a huff "Well I guess I know who wears the pants in this relationship." He said with a smirk.

Glaring at the boy for his rude insinuation Mew sighed before saying "It's not like that between us you disrespectful little vagrant

Glaring at the boy for his rude insinuation Mew sighed before saying "It's not like that between us you disrespectful little vagrant. He's like my brother and he's right I do know better. No matter how frustrating and difficult you happen to be at the moment I shouldn't have allowed you to do something that might cause you more injury. I'm sorry."

Gulf was completely caught off guard by the apology. It seemed genuine. It was also telling that the gruff, scowly caveman really valued Mr. Congeniality's opinion. That information might come in handy later. Gulf made a mental note.

Having spent the last 3 years on his own, Gulf had become quite adept at reading a situation and choosing the best course of action to get him the most favorable outcome. He wasn't evil or malicious he just needed to look out for himself and take advantage of every opportunity.
