Chapter 6: The Family of Convenience

The place Matty crashed at turned out to be a 5th floor walk up he shared with 2 roommates. Gulf was surprised to see the two new faces sitting at the small kitchen table when they entered the one bedroom apartment.

The larger of the two boys looked up from his bowl of Lucky Charms and scowled at Gulf.

"Bringing home strays now Mathias." He said with a growl in his voice that instantly put Gulf on edge.

"Last I checked it's still my name on the lease, so technically you're a stray too." Matty whispered under his breath, then instantly cringed as he heard the chair scrape across the floor as it was pushed away from the table.

Launching from the table with enough force to up-end the nearly empty box of cereal, the now angry looking boy stomped over to stand directly infront of a visible nervous Matty.

"YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY MATHIAS!"

Holding up his hands in surrender Matty quickly tried to defuse the situation

"Nope I'm good Juda! Nothing to say at all just trying to help out a fellow wanderer." He said gesturing towards Gulf, who stood frozen but ready to bolt if the big guy, Juda, decided to get handsy.

"Wanderer my ass? Looks more like a reject from Oliver Twist. You got a name Wanderer or should I just make one up for ya?" Juda asked with a sneer.

"His names Gulf and I..."

"DID I FUCKING ASK YOU MATHIAS? I asked the wanderer? What's a matter boy, cat got your tongue." Juda yelled turning his attention back to Gulf.

Gulf flinched and tightened the grip on his backpack but refused to take a step back regardless of his flight instinct screaming at him to do so.

"My names Gulf and I'm actually impressed you've read Charles Dickens." Gulf said managing to mask his fear with sarcasm.
