Sophie's POV:
I was doing my multispeciesial homework at my desk when I heard a knock at my door, and the doorknob turned to open the door and reveal one of my best friends.
"Hey, Keefe," I said, placing down my pencil and sweeping some of my hair behind my shoulder. "What are you doing here?"
He walked over to my bed and sat down. "I was bored and decided to come over, since you never fail to amuse me," he said while taking Ella in his hands, lying down on the pillow and proceeding to throw the blue elephant and catch it.
"Well, I'm glad to know you find me amusing, but I'm kinda busy right now." Even though I would've loved for him to stay and hang out, I really needed to do my homework. I already had some overdue assignments, due to the complications with the Neverseen.
Keefe looked over to see what I was doing and groaned. "Homework? Seriously, Foster? Do I mean nothing to you?"
I rolled my eyes at his sarcasm and looked back down at my worksheet.
"What's she doing?" Ro said, strolling into the bedroom, and sitting down on the chair next to my bed.
"Homework," Keefe groaned loudly. He stopped throwing Ella up in the air, proceeding to smash the stuffed elephant into his face, muffling his words. Well . . . word.
"Ugh," Ro said, and she rested her head in her hands. She stared at me for a while. It became disturbing pretty quickly.
"What?" I asked, exasperated.
Ro kept staring for a couple for seconds before speaking to Keefe without looking away. "Can't you just get it over with, already?"
Keefe looked up quickly from checking his hair in the mirror he always carried around. (You know, just in case The Hair needs some attention.)
His eyes were blown wide, and he was glaring at his bodyguard to shut up.
"Get what over with?" I asked, confused. I set down my pencil, spinning around and around in the chair slowly until I got dizzy.
"Nothing!" Keefe yelped, his face having a panicked expression on it. He tried to cover it up, but I already noticed.
"Why do you look so panicked?" I asked, tilting my head like a puppy, interested in the conversation now.
"Yeah, Hunkyhair," Ro drawled, looking at her purple-painted nails, smirking at him. "Why do you look so panicked?"
Keefe sent a glare in Ro's direction. One that said, You don't want to know what I'm planning to do you once we get back to the Shores of Solace.
If looks could kill, I thought.
"Anyway," I said. "As I said before: get what over with?"
Ro made a loud noise that was somewhere between a sigh and groan. "And the adorable obliviousness strikes again!" she said with fake enthusiasm.
"Obliviousness?" I ask, confused as to why she thinks I'm oblivious. Oblivious to what?
"Just forget it, Foster," Keefe said. "Someday, I might tell you, but until then, I suggest you don't worry your pretty little head about it."
I blushed slightly, thinking about how he thought I was pretty. I mean, all elves are beautiful, but I'm the weird girl who was raised by humans. I was the elf with the unusual brown eyes. The boring, ugly, weird brown ey-
"Woah," Keefe said, pulling me out of my thoughts. "What's with those emotions?"
I blushed, knowing that Keefe, with his darn Empath skills, caught onto my emotions.
"It's nothing," I said. Keefe raised an eyebrow, and I could tell that he didn't believe me. But he didn't say anything as he set Ella back down onto the bed and stood up.
"Well, I'll let that one slide, Foster, but don't get used to it." He dug for his home crystal in his pocket, and pulled it out, holding it up to the light, and a beam ricocheted off of the crystal to the floor.
"I guess we're going now," Ro grumbled. "I can't believe you lost your chance, Hunkyhair," she said under her breath, but I still heard it.
"Lost his chance?" I asked. "Lost his chance to what?"
Keefe quickly grabbed Ro's arm and dragged her to the light, saying, "Nothing! Absolutely nothing!"
"Hey!" I yelled to him as they entered the beam of light, glittering away. "I want to know!"
"You will, Foster," she heard Keefe say. "Someday you will."
