A bit violent at points with strong language, please be advised

Trigger warning: There are mentions of abuse, neglect, and injuries. If this bothers you, please do not read this story.

I understand I used a stereotypical scenario for schizophrenia. I also understand that the voices rarely beg for violence. This was just a scene I created. I do not intend to offend anyone.

Posie. That's what everyone calls her. Not Jasper or Jasps (as colleagues liked to call her). Just Posie.

Posie was born in 1884 with her sister, Jaiden. They were born in the town of Dinan, France located in the region of Brittany. Their father fled long before their mother found that she was pregnant.

After they were born, their mother left them on the steps of a church, unable to provide for them.

The priest begged for people to help take care of the twins. A young couple eventually decided to take them in. The woman's name was Avina White and the man's name was Adam Baker. They took the twins in as their own and raised them.

Her childhood started well but turned on a dime.

Posie spent most of the day in her bedroom with Jaiden. Jaiden was often very ill and could not get out of bed. Posie kept her entertained and distracted from her ailments. Posie gave her the nickname 'Ghost' because of her sickly pale skin and the dark circles under her eyes.

The winter cold only weakened Ghost. Christmas was approaching, but she wasn't doing well. Posie could feel the life slipping away from her sister. Ghost passed away in her sleep the day before Christmas. Posie was heartbroken. The only one she could truly trust was gone

Ghost's death caused the couple to turn on Posie. They claimed she was bad luck. Avina started giving Posie impossible chores around the house. Mind you, Posie was only four at the time. Adam began tutoring her, but he was not kind. For every answer she got wrong or every mistake she made, Adam would slap her knuckles with a wooden ruler.

Posie's hands were often swollen and wrapped in gauze. In all honesty, Adam was an excellent teacher. His methods of punishment were the problem. Posie grew more intelligent at a rapid pace. The only reason she studied so frequently was that she feared her foster parents. She did learn to get by, though.

As Posie grew older, she noticed something strange. She would see Ghost around the house. She would hear voices, but no one had called for her or had been talking to her.

She ignored the problem as best she could, but it was difficult. She began to isolate herself and only left her room to do schoolwork or chores. Neither Avina nor Adam took notice of her behavior.

Neither ever checked to see if she was alright.

Several years past and her foster parents only grew crueler. Posie grew colder from the constant abuse and neglect.

She was now fourteen. She was very intelligent for her age, but very naive in a social sense.

Posie felt more alone than she had ever been. She wasn't allowed outside very much. Her skin was very pale and her green eyes looked dull and sad. Whenever anyone saw her in the small town, they always remarked how sad she looked. Few tried to ask her what was wrong. Her only response was "I'm scared of them..." before fearfully glancing at her house.

Whenever she had a chance to go outside, she would walk to the old cabin by the creek. An older man named Edwin lived there. He was kind and did his best to help her.
