When I posted the A/N, I quickly got back a few sweet replies. Thank you for that. I will definitely take care of my health. But not only my physical health is important, but my mental health is also important. I can't get stuck in a vicious cycle of school, homework, sleep. I'll collapse. I know that it sucks, I've come way too close to a burnout three times already and I'm only 16.
So that's exactly why I want to keep writing.
I need to make time to relax and do the things I like. I like writing, drawing, reading, etc. The sweet comments on my stories always light up my day. It makes me happy that my work makes other people happy.
I hope you continue to support and enjoy my stories. That being said, enjoy this one.

WARNING: swearing.

I'm working on my writing skills, and right now I'm mainly focusing on dialogue. I thought some of my dialogue were difficult to read and wanted to make it simpler. Right now I'm applying a dialogue style I've read before in some books (in my still mini library at home) and I've learned from dialogue tips. I'll be working less with words like 'said' and 'asked' and I'll be giving every speaker a separate(ish) paragraph.

Also, prepare yourself, this is gonna be a long one. Word count + author's note: 3102

You were going to be paired with a junior officer. A man, which made it a tad complicated seeing as close contact with the opposite sex was forbidden in the army.

Apparently, this kid was a bit of a loose cannon and you were the most trusted senior officer in the fifth army corp. Due to lasting injury, you were no longer a fighter, you even got knocked down from your spot in the top 300 high rankers to a regular ranker. But you still had your knowledge and experience in combat, making you an excellent mentor for junior officers.

Though some new recruits really hated you. You weren't your run of the mill officer, you liked to have a bit of fun. You took the time to make jokes every now and then and more than appreciated someone with a sharp tongue. Being a non-commission officer, technically, your rank was even lower than a junior officer. But if they thought you would keep your opinion to yourself near higher-ranked officers they had another thing coming. Not that most of them minded, you earned their respect in combat long before you retired due to injury. However, your personality tended to make some of the new recruits nervous when they were near their senior officers.

"Ninth army corps commander," You greeted your boss, watching the new recruit closely as he marched behind him. He looked like a disciplined kid. So you decided to whip this kid into shape, not everything needs to be serious. Do something fun with your life from time to time. "Officer (Y/n), meet our new recruit."

"Are we allowed to shake hands?" Your commander nodded. "Yes, there is a special exception to the usual rule, but professional contact only."
"Understood ninth corps commander. Nice to meet ya cub, I'll be in charge of you from now on. Teach ya how not to die 'round here yeah?" You shook hands, while you took in each other's features. He was good looking, not gonna lie.

After many years of serving in the army, you considered yourself to be a good judge of character. You could basically sense it. He struck you as respectful, but a tad lazy, his shoulders in a slight slouch, he held a polite expression, but you didn't need to look hard to know something dark hid behind that smile. In the army, in the tower in general, nobody stayed pure and everybody got messed up in one way or another.

You felt his eyes on you, trying to get a concept of your personality like you did with him. "Lo po bia Yasratcha, it's a pleasure ma'am." You saw him narrow his eyes, looking for the slightest hint of what kind of person you were. In return, you just gave him a playful smirk saying: 'You'll learn.' To your amusement, he seemed a bit frustrated, perhaps this trainee would be more fun than the last one.
