-It's weird, isn't it? How a girl can't fight for the royal guard but a stranger who appeared out of nowhere can? Also isn't it weird how Volga appeared a few weeks after, right when the royal family began to trust Link and his creepy amazing knowledge of sword fighting? I've never really liked Link. He's really quiet, kind of like me... And he always has an intense expression when he's focusing or just doing nothing. Also, he has an activity BESIDES school. I mean, how can a 16-year-old boy wrestle school AND still have time for fighting? I'm calling his bluff. He's probably some fairy boy. Then there's me. A 16-year-old girl who has dark brown hair and olive skin who sucks at everything she does except sword fighting.
- "Battalions with specific......."
-I can't with people these days. I just wish that people like Link can just disappear.
- "Fourteen is ideal........."
-I know he's hiding something. Also, how does he concentrate so much while he looks like he's in his own thoughts all the time?
- "Naeva......"
-He drives me insane!
-Tap Tap.
- "Huh-" I look behind me and I see Link tapping my shoulder.
- "She called on you," he whispered.
- "Oh, COME On!" I thought.
- "Uhm- Huh?" I muttered looking at the teacher.
- "Naeva? Have you been paying attention?" she asked her voice stern and demanding.
- "Yes-" I quickly answered and looked over at another student's scroll. I went down to that specific place that it says and look up at the teacher once again.
- "Okay," she said, "what's the answer to the question I asked?"
-I quickly skimmed over the sentence and said, "Uhm, fourteen soldiers are ideal for a battalion and- erm... Yeah, Uhm, fourteen is ideal... and all..." I felt my face go red with embarrassment.
- "No. We already passed that," she said. "Link, would you care to answer the question for Naeva?"
- "Why the hell wasn't I listening...? Now Link gets to gloat about that." I thought to myself.
- "The more moral you have, the better your soldiers fight," Link mumbled.
-The teacher gave him a nod of approval. I wanted the ground to swallow me up.
-The day was drawn out like an execution but instead of getting it over with, the executioner kept missing on purpose to freak the victim out. I stopped listening halfway through the lesson and started to draw advanced sword fighting techniques while I was yelling in my mind about how I hate life. And yet, it couldn't distract me from that creepy gaze peering me over my shoulder. I could feel Link looking at my drawings but I didn't say anything. It's bad enough if you yell at someone but this is a trainee in the royal guard we're talking about. I would get in serious trouble.
- "You can go," the teacher said as she dismissed us. That rattled me from my drawings. I stuffed my scroll in my bag and hastily walked out.
- "Naeva?" a voice asked. I stopped. That was Link's voice. I turned around.
- "What," I said, hoping it would dismiss him.
- "Your drawings are very detailed," he said, keeping his expression unreadable.
- "Thanks?" I said, my voice hinting a question. "Did he really just compliment me?"
-He looked both ways, noticing the kids watching him, wondering why he was finally talking to someone and me no less. "Walk with me," he mumbled and took off towards the arena. I followed him, wondering what in the hell was he doing.
- "You know," he said as he stopped right in front of the gates of the arena. "I can help you get into the royal guard," he said, turning around.
- "Wait... WHAT? He wants to help me get into the guard?"
- "I can sense you're surprised at my request," he said, "but someone who can draw advanced sword techniques, can definitely learn them." He scratched his head uncomfortably making it known that this was awkward for him as well. "I've never seen anyone draw a perfect match between two swords before."
- "Why... are you doing this?" I asked, kind of creeped out by his kindness.
-He blinked. "Because I don't want people in the Royal Guard to turn down an amazing fighter," he said.
- "Wait. Wait. Hold it." I stopped him. "How can you assume I'm a good fighter?"
- "I can just tell. From where I come from, I've been trained in sword fighting and the ability to spot sword masters."
- "I'm confused," I said, holding my head in one hand.
- "Then don't be. Just say if you want to be in the guard or not," he said, showing a rare smile. "It's your chance to make a difference," he held out his hand, "So... What'll it be?"
- "I... Don't know..."
