~Excerpt~

I watch in horror as the God like creature, squeezed the neck of my true love.  The look of Gage's face as Ash's face turns from red to purple was menacing.  All I can do is stand there, with my back pressed against the hard, metal railing lining the top of the castle.  The wind blowing sings a malicious song as my Ash is chocked to death by Gage's meaty hands.  The smell of sea salt burning in my nostrils only made me more afraid.  I look up teary eyed to see Ash staring lovingly down at me.  Images of Ash's beautiful bronze hair ruffling in the wind and his abnormal silver eyes full of laughter.  Most importantly, what it felt like to be with him.

Anger floods through me and I stand up shaky legged and glare at Gage right when he clamps his hand down successfully breaking Ash's neck.  I yell out in anguish and send out all the power I can muster at him.

"Ada don't!" I hear Evelyn yell at me as I send my most powerful element, spirit, at Gage.  At the same moment, something inside me... shattered.  My soul, me entire being, feels as if it's being ripped away from my body.  I cry out in pain before slumping against the railing.  I feel air rushing towards me as I plummet down towards the churning sea below me before everything turns black and the pain lessens.  My soul has just been shattered.

Chapter 1

I walk into the dim lit living room looking for my parents, siblings, anyone to tell you the truth.  Everything's quiet in the white walled room.  Nobody is on the black leather couch or lying on the brown-carpeted floor watching television.  The whole house has a ghost town feeling to it.  I walk down the short hallway and into my room, locking the blue door behind me.  I turn on the light and let out a little scream.

There, sitting on my brown and blue flowered blanket is a boy around my age.  His strange silver eyes bore into mine as he runs a hand through his short, bronze hair.  He looks up at me with a smile curving on his well-chiseled face.  "It's almost your fifteen birthday Ada," he says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.  I look around the blue walled room with drawings pinned up looking for the hidden camera.  Why else would a handsome guy be in my room.  I get on my hands and knees and look across the soft, brown carpet to under my bed thinking that my brother would be under there.  "What are you doing?" his sweet voice asks me as I stand up quickly and glare at him.

"Why does it matter that I'm turning fifteen tomorrow?" I ask him ignoring his second question.  His silver eyes turn mocking.

"You don't remember me Princess Ada?  I'm hurt, really," he says as he stands up and goes over to me.  His towering six and a half foot frame towers over my delicate five foot and two inch one.

"No, I-I don't," I say unsure.  He sticks his hands in his grey sweatshirt and cocks his head at me.

"You don't remember anything do you?" he asks me again.  That zaps me out of it.  How did he know that I have amnesia of all events before I was eight?  What is he even doing in my room?  What am I doing letting him be in my room!

"Why are you in my house?  Who let you in?  How did you get in?" I ask him as I scurry over to my desk.  He comes closer to me with a sad expression.

"I'm not trying to scare you Princess," he says as he carefully makes his way towards me.  I get a good grip with my right hand onto the green desk lamp and hold it up in the air.

"If you don't stop right there, I will slam this against your skull," I warn him as I get into a defensive crouch.  The mystery boy sighs.

"I'm sorry for scaring you Ada, I truly am.  I came here to tell you to get ready for me to come and gather you," he says as he gives me a quick bow.  "Till next time Princess," he says as he gets onto one knee and kissing my left hand shocking me.  In a blink of an eye, he's gone and I'm left standing confused in my room.

I sit up slowly from my pillow and look around bleary eye for my clock.  8:10 a.m. it says in big, red numbers.  I groan and slam my head back onto the light brown pillow.  I slip another pillow onto my face and sigh as my eyes close back.  Just for once, I would like to wake up at a different time.  I've been waking up exactly at 8:10 for as long as I can remember.  I'm just glad that it's Sunday... my birthday.  I hear my door creak open and footsteps trying to be sneaky.

Throwing my pillow into the air, I laugh a laugh that would put a psychotic person to shame.  My little sister screams and runs behind my mother whose holding a tray of breakfast goodies.  Mom, on the other hand, is looking at me with disapproval.

"You really should stop scaring your sister.  She is only three," she says making me laugh a little.  "Anyways, here's your birthday breakfast," she says as she sets the silver tray on my nightstand.  "Get up and get dress," she kisses me on the top of my head before leaving the room with Lilly trailing behind her.  I grab the silver tray, gobble down the cinnamon rolls, and pancakes loaded with whipped cream before even thinking about getting up.  I smile as I drink my Dr. Pepper.  Ah, soda first thing in the morning certainly hits the spot!

I sigh and lean backwards cracking my back and knees.  Oh, that felt good.  I moved the heavy blankets off me and stepped onto the soft brown carpet and walk sluggishly towards my closet.  What to wear, what to wear?  I yank a white tank top off a hanger and stood there for a few more seconds before slipping a purple knitted sweater dress of another hook.  I slip them over my head before heading over to my vanity.  I sit down while sighing at my reflection.  I take out my awesome curling iron and start to curl my long, light brown hair.  When all of it was in little curly locks I take a hairbrush from the stand and brush it painfully through making the curls look more natural.  I grab my hairspray and give my hair a nice coating.

Leaving my straight bangs and non-existent makeup alone, I get up and walk over to the body mirror.   I look at myself and sigh.  I'm not very pretty, I'll tell you that much.  My body is slim but short, I'm just lucky enough to get some curves.  My face is oval with great cheekbones.  My greatest feature is my eyes.  The lightest blue possible color around my dilated pupil like always.  I turn around to my jewelry box and take out this medallion looking thing made out of pure gold.  Little garnets, my birthstone, dot the metal.  Apparently, it's a family heirloom or something.

Slipping that on all along with a ring, I skip down the stairs.   I walk into the family room where mom and dad sit on the couch watching the news.

"Hey wonderful family of mine!" I say gloomily as I make my way to the refrigerator pulling out another Dr. Pepper.  I pop the tab and sigh in relief as the caffeine fills me.

"Better?" asks dad and I nod.  "Great, because your mom and I have something to tell you," he says.

"Can it wait?  I'm going out with Evelyn for breakfast," I ask him as I walk out of the tiled kitchen and into the carpeted living room.  The large window in the right side of the room has the curtains pulled back revealing the snow bank outside our house.  Why can't we live in Australia where my birthday is actually in the summer?  Stupid January 23rd.

"I suppose," he says hesitantly and I smile up at his brown eyes and salt-peppered hair.

"Thanks Daddy!" I say excitedly as I kiss both him and mom on the cheek before putting my coat on and running out to my car.  I just hope this birthday is better than last year.
