Today she was engrossed in another book, and it seemed like she was starting a new series. He mirrored her expression, the little frowns, eyebrows raising, or twitching. The smiles, the way she pursed her lips as she flipped the pages wanting to find out the conclusion for what she was reading. Kang Tae noticed her since the first day she transferred to his high school almost a year ago.

Go Moon Young, she moved to Seongjin city from Seoul with her parents, they lived in the infamous cursed castle. Apparently Moon Young lived in Seongjin City a few years before moving to Seoul, they went to different elementary schools so he was not aware of her past in this small city or else he would have remembered. You simply can’t forget someone like her.

There were rumors as to why she moved back to the city, some speculated an assault case in her high school in Seoul while some spoke of familial problems. Kang Tae did not heed any of the rumors. He was solely focused on her and her only.

He watched her attentively, his lips parted and his eyes soft, her long raven black hair flowing and cascading around her shoulders, making her look like a wood nymph. She was slender with delicate features and her eyes were a beautiful dark brown, framed by long lashes. She had a glow of mystery to her, she was so beautiful yet there was something strong and determined about her, something resolute.

She never seemed to notice him, nor anyone. She was either preoccupied during classes or buried in a book. Whether it’s morning assemblies, break time or lunch, she always had a book in her hand. She did not seem to notice the stares, the rumors not the gossip surrounding her, maybe she did and preferred to ignore them. She was disinterested in what her classmates were doing or saying, she did not attempt at making any friends and those who approached her did not seem to have any such luck so far.

She rarely showed many emotions, but when she was engaged in a book, her face would tell a whole story. It was as if she was a book and Kang Tae adored reading her expressions. He finally understood what people meant when they said ‘eyes are the windows to the soul’.

At times, her eyes shimmered, at times her eyes shore and at times he saw so much intensity and sadness it made his heartache. He could not explain how a simple expression of hers affected him. How a small smirk or smile, while she’s occupied with her book, made his heart flutter but a frown or pursed lips in sadness or disappointment made him want to make her smile or take the book away and give her every book in the entire world if that would make her smile even for a second.

“Yah Kang Tae, stop staring. You are going to burn a hole through her face.” Jae Su placed his arms around his shoulders.

Of course, his best friend knew about his admiration and infatuation with Moon Young. Jae Su was once elated that there was finally a pretty classmate but she did not respond to his friendship attempts so eventually, he gave up.

“Ohhh even Elsa would shiver from how cold she is.” Was his conclusion.

Jae Su warned him that she was not the typical sweet high schooler and even if they do end up dating by some miracle she would not be acting cute and fluffy like other high school girls. Instead Kang Tae should give up and date someone else from their cohort.

He was indeed a healthy and good looking high schooler and girls had confessed to him but he did not have the desire to date nor did he ever have a crush nor liked a girl. She was the first girl he not only noticed but fell for.

So there was no way Kang Tae could not give up nor move on. There was something about her that touched him deep inside and he felt drawn to her in a strangely powerful way. He could not quite put his finger on it but he only wanted to get closer to her, he wanted to know her, her story. Who she is, who she was.
