Chapter 4

HALYN
Frat house parties are usually not like what you would see in movies.
There are quite a few reasons I hate them. One might be the fact that I would rather not be in a room jam-packed with college students. So much, in fact, that you can’t even breathe without having to endure the smell of alcohol and sweat. Then there’s the floor, let’s just say I wouldn’t take off my shoes even if my life depended on it.
I knew I was going to regret agreeing as soon as the doors opened and we were exposed to the body-thumping techno music. The sight of the huge crowd made me involuntarily reach for Levi’s hand. He didn’t tell me to let go though, so I continued to hold on.
Levi looked nice today. He was wearing a slim-fit black shirt and jeans. His brown hair were in their usual state of disarray but somehow he pulled it off.
I blushed once I realized I was blandly checking him out. He just smiled at me before leading me inside.
We pushed past all the dancing people and reached the kitchen where it was considerably less cramped. This was slightly surprising as I could see the cartons of alcohol on the floor. You’d think the main reason people would come to these things would be because of free alcohol. But then again, what do I know?
I let go of Levi’s hand and walked over to the counter where a bunch of red cups were lined up.
“Do you want something to drink?” I asked turning towards him.
“What’s on offer?”
“Well you can either have this brand of alcohol,” I said picking up one of the cans from the carton and holding it up so he could see, “Or this one,” I continued repeating the same action with a can from another carton.
He laughed, “What are you having?” He asked.
I don’t know why but I decided to keep the fact that I had never drunk alcohol in my life to myself. I just held up the can in my right hand, “This one,” I said.
“Okay, I’m driving today so no alcohol for me.” He said with a pout.
I tried not to let my smile drop as I placed the can in my left hand back into its cartoon.
Fuck my life. Why do I lie so much?
Levi came up next to me and grabbed a red cup from the counter. I tried not to gag when I saw the disgusting brown colour of the beverage as I poured it into the cup.
“Maybe we should go look for Alyson,” I suggested picking up the cup containing the foul smelling liquid.
Levi nodded and grabbed my free hand. Then he started pulling me through the crowd again. I was thankful for the dim lights otherwise he would’ve surely noticed the deep blush on my face.
I blush too much. Damn you, ginger genes.
Finally, after roaming around for a few minutes, we decided to give up and ended up going back to the kitchen. It was a lot more crowded now, which made me realize that the party was in full swing. It also made me realize that it was a huge mistake to invite Levi here.
I wasn’t one of those people who were the life of the party. I didn’t even know how to party. I looked at Levi. He was leaning on the counter observing the dancing people. He didn’t look bored, but it wasn’t like he was having a whole lot of fun.
I don’t know what make me do it. I had fully intended to just hold on to the glass until it was time to go home. Maybe it was the faraway look on Levi’s face, or maybe I just wanted to let loose for once, but I decided to take a huge gulp from the plastic cup in my hands.
