Jessica slowly blinked her eyes open in the bright light. She didn't know where she was. On closer inspection, she was in the makeshift hospital wing created next to the temporary base of operations. She glanced at her wrist, and saw an IV there, green see-through liquid flowing in through it. She wondered what happened, and then she remembered. The building...Gaster!
She looked over and saw the skeleton sleeping next to her on another hospital bed. His eyes seemed to be glowing a soft green, visible from beneath his eyelids. Jessica smiled. We're both okay. She looked to her other side and saw the skelebros. We're all okay.
When she took a closer look, she realized that something was wrong with Sans. His skull was bandaged, and he seemed to be sleeping fitfully, his face contorted in pain. His skull was bandaged and seemed to be sagging in at a point. She frowned. That can't be good. She had to apologize to him when he woke up. To all of them. Before a disaster can't be averted.
She closed her eyes and leant her head back into the pillow. She felt... oddly good. She suspected the IV had something to do with that. Consolidated healing magic, infused into a base of clear, syrupy liquid. She didn't know what the liquid was made of. She would have to ask Gaster when he woke up. If.... She refused to let herself even think that. She had to believe they would all be okay.
She broke out of her thoughts as the door clicked open. Rave walked in. He seemed as drained as she felt. They all seemed drained now that she thought about it. Then something more serious hit her. She groaned. "Rave, your eyes, your hair... your trait is fading?" She winced at how sick she sounded.
He chuckled. "Of course you're awake." He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Rave."
"Speaking of, you got yours back it seems!"
"Answer, Rave."
"It's not fading." He said flatly. He sighed. "Just took a bit of a hit."
"You didn't."
"Oh, but I did."
"Rave!" Jessica was livid. "If everyone took it together, you would have all survived. If you did your own part, you would have all been fine. Yet you could have died!"
"But I didn't." Rave smirked. He looked exhausted despite his attitude, so Jessica decided to let it go reluctantly.
"True." She sighed as well. "Just be more careful, okay? Any other news?"
"Well, Bete Noire is dead." He smiled as he said it. A genuine smile. It was such a rare look, so his face shone.
"Wh- Ho- WHEN?"
"Who?" Jessica said, calmer now. Rave gestured towards Gaster. Jessica gave a start and immediately regretted it. "OWW-" She abruptly cut off as Gaster stirred and turned over.
Rave snickered. "Want to keep moving Jess?"
She replied. "Rave." The single word carried an obvious message.
Shut. Up.
She continued as if nothing had happened. "How are you so calm about this?"
He shrugged. "I screamed my fill about fifteen minutes ago."
"So it's over...." Jessica couldn't seem to believe it.
"I'll leave you for a bit." Rave got up slowly. "I have a feeling you need time to take this in."
He left the room. Jessica barely got time to think. Her head fell back to the pillow.
