Gaster woke up to a yell. He groaned and turned over. He saw Jessica and Rave talking. Jessica was on an IV, and she looked and sounded exsausted. They chatted for a bit, then Rave left. Jessica seemed to lean back into her pillow, and then was silent for a few minutes. Gaster thought she had fallen asleep.
She suddenly spoke. "I know you're awake." Gaster jumped. She was turned away from him!
"Wha- How?"
"Gaster, you snore."
"And?"
"You stopped snoring." Jessica snickered. "Aren't you meant to be analytical?"
Gaster turned so that he was facing her. "Well, I'm tired."
"I'm not surprised. Congratulations."
"It's finally over."
"Thanks to you."
"No." He tried to sound comforting. "Thanks to us." Jessica looked over confusedly. Gaster hurriedly corrected himself. "All. I mean. Thanks to us all."
Jessica snorted. "You really are tired. Get some rest bonehead."
"Oh, resorting to name calling? How childish."
"I'm going to sleep Gaster."
"Me too. Sleep well, Miss Grey."
Gaster turned back to the wall. Soon, Jessica's breathing evened and he could tell she was asleep. She tried to act like nothing was wrong, but Gaster could tell she was hurting inside. And, he thought, she should. But he didn't realize how bad he would feel. He felt bad for hurting her. I don't understand why when you-
And he realized, it was because she'd been nothing but kind to him. She had saved him in his first fight with the demon. He had defeated the demon, and she thanked him, talked, joked. And the root of Sans's problem was her, but his current condition was due to his carelessness. Papyrus was hurt as well, protecting his brother from... their own....... father.
It wasn't right.
He was the bad one here. He was the monster in a literal sense.
And he had no right choice. He had to kill Bete Noire whatever the cost. And he'd blamed and attacked the only human who was nice to him now.
I've really messed up this time.
