"So, did you text him back?" Evan appeared out of nowhere with yet another lopsided grin plastered across his face. He should have had better things to do at that stage of the day... race day was tomorrow. The sun had set over Melbourne hours ago, however, the breeze blowing back into the garage was still greatly welcomed.

"No, I didn't. I didn't know what to say back to 'shrimps', funny that." I paused and looked back up at the blonde. This whole thing had started over a week ago. "Besides, it could have been anyone."

"Well that is bullshit." Evan plonked the spanner down on the floor as he bent down to my level, "Do you need a hand?"

"I'm fine, go back to your side and annoy them." I sighed and he widened his eyes as he watched me adjust the tiny components inside the wheel arch. This required precision to the max. "You are like a lost cause without Jacob, seriously."

"Fine, I'm going..." He went to go before he turned round and flashed another grin at me. There was something on his mind, and it wasn't sorting out Sebastian's car. "I'm giving it forty-eight hours..."

"Giving what forty-" but I had caught on, "you're distracting me and I would really like some sleep tonight."

The following morning Joel and I were in deep conversation, of course he had turned up late and that had prohibited me from getting down to breakfast on time with the rest of the guys. Still, this race was much more important than my stomach.

"So yeah, Karin, I think that this is sorted now." Joel flicked shut the pages of the booklet which were covered with my handwriting, in reality we were nowhere near done enough and I would be finishing it at breakfast, hoping that Sam would give me a hand. I had stayed up until the early hours after qualifying. Daniel had qualified on the front row and none of us wanted anything to corrupt that.

"Yeah, off you go to..." I shrugged as he stood up from the desk where we had been sat in my hotel room. "I'll see you at the track."

"Right." He turned back to face me along with the paperwork. I followed him out. "Team breakfast?"

"I need to go and see Sam and Simon, yes."

"Sure."

Usually by this point he would have walked off.

"I need to go back to my room and sort some stuff out." And by that I expected he meant that he had female company, especially judging by the way he had dressed himself. His shirt was hanging out for starters.

I shut the door behind me and walked down the corridor slightly behind Joel, I didn't do small talk with him. There was simply nothing to talk about, and somehow I didn't think that 'the weather' would quite cut it. Unless I was his type and shirtless, it was a well known fact that he and I would never get on. He was a lazy, self-centred -...

We had reached the lift and the doors had opened. Joel and I got in and he pressed the floor for his room first. Flipping typical!

I bit my tongue but didn't say anything, I didn't even say anything when he asked me to do yet another set of calculations for him. Either he forgot that I had my own section of car to deal with, as well as shadowing him, or he just wanted to see how much he could get away with.
