a massive fucking epiphany

In a flurry of faces and bodies the boy did not recognize, he found himself slipping through the crowd of muggles as if they were nothing but waves in an entirely larger ocean. through some confused stares and occasional glares, Remus lupin was able to get through the platform as quickly as humanly possible. he wanted the minutes to glide past with such ease. though sadly, time doesn't work like that. time doesn't push and pull in the way that you might want it to. As the enormous clock ticked upon a great big brick wall, Remus smiled to himself, it was time to go. he pushed lightly on the trolley that held his unnecessarily heavy trunk. the trunk itself was full of completely unnecessary things like books from two years ago, an abundance of ripped up sweaters, and even gifts for all of his friends. his friends, of course, were the reason he was in such a giddy state. he'd finally be seeing them for the first time in six weeks. the holidays couldn't have dragged on longer if they tried.

Remus ran full speed at the brick wall, which would have deemed any ordinary boy as insane, but Remus was not an ordinary boy. he was a wizard. the brick wall seemed to melt into a different dimension and with that, he was standing in the middle of the platform 9/34. it was as if Remus had left his old, boring world behind that brick wall and looked forward to the new and exciting world. it wasn't like he wasn't from a family of wizards and witches, it was just that his parents didn't seem to be all that excited about all things magic like some other families. the thing was that Remus loved his family, he was a mother's boy and held on dearly to the relationship he had with his father, he just wished, hoped that they wouldn't always be so boring. an almost eccentric buzz lingered in the air. some students he had never even seen before were gathered together with looks of bewilderment and nervousness. Remus himself was a bit nervous because however excited he was about getting to Hogwarts he was not excited about a particular thing that happened every month. He didn't want people to figure it out. Remus had three very close friends, they were the only ones who shared the truth. the truth in that he was a werewolf. without a second glance, he realised who was ahead of him. how could he mistake those silky black curls? his content looking face morphed into that of complete and utter glee.

"Sirius!" he heard himself yelling before he could stop it. why would he want to anyway? the pair ran towards each other like silly little school girls in need of a gossip session. within seconds they were embracing in a warm hug, Remus' awkwardly long arms wrapped tightly over Sirius' shoulders. now neither of them knew it, but they both had butterflies disguised as first-day excitement. To see each other after so long was overwhelmingly wonderful. they had both been in much need of a friend, of normality. like a chandelier, the thought of boarding the train dangled upon their minds.

"I missed you moony" Sirius admitted with a soft voice, a content one. Remus smiled at this gesture, more pleased than anything to hear his voice again. "I missed you too Padfoot" each others nicknames seemed to fit perfectly for each other, like puzzle pieces. "now lets board the train before it leaves without us." Remus laughed. he laughed for the first time in what had felt like months.

after their luggage had been packed carefully away, the pair made their way onto the train. both in an eager search of the compartment that would contain their beloved friends. they had reached the back of the train within seconds and slipped straight in through the door. A head snapped up in their direction, startled by the sudden breakage of silence. the boy's face immediately beamed with delight. "Padfoot! moony!" a greeting that was so simple, yet so absolutely wonderful. The boy who was previously sat beside him was already up of his ass to greet his other two friends. "Hey peter" Remus smiled at his shortest friend. James had almost taken the cake for being the shortest but seemed to have grown over the holidays. before they could all catch up, the train whistled, signifying its departure.

Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter were now sitting together in the compartment. the scene outside was a faint blur, due to the speed the train was moving at. If the boys didn't know any better, they'd think they were flying. Sirius was playing with a loose cotton in the lining of a cushion, seemingly deep in thought. this was a great contrast to when the day had started, beaming with joy, not a care in the world other than seeing his friends at last. But overthinking was a habit of his, and he couldn't help it. he found he was the quietest of his friends but they didn't seem to mind. they enjoyed his company and he enjoyed theirs.
