"I'm sorry Yaku, I shouldn't have done that I panicked and made an impulsive decision. I couldn't just stand by and watch you get pegged," he looks down at our hands still intertwined and quickly lets go blushing. I follow his example. "You still want gelato?

-- Lev's POV --

Yaku looked down nervously, he nods and looks back up to me.

"Yeah, I think I do," we continue to walk down the street as we passed multiple shops with food

in the window. Suddenly, my stomach demonstrated a whale's mating call, Yaku's laughter rang through the streets, sent a shiver down my spine, and butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I look down at the sidewalk and examine each crack hiding my burning face, "Lev, you're being quiet. Is something wrong?" he tries looking me in the eyes but I face the other way.

"No, nothing's wrong I'm just really hungry," I explain finally looking him in the eyes.

"That's good," then his eyes suddenly lit up. He stopped, almost instantly he stopped right in front of a Dennys, "why don't we eat here?"

"Sure, but you know if you're not hungry I can just eat-" before I could continue he grabs my hand and drags me inside, as soon as we take a seat a waitress comes up to us to take our order.

Yaku looked excited, and for reasons unknown, my heart was beating extremely fast. His eyes met mine as he started to talk, I wasn't processing what he was saying, bad move. Cause all of a sudden he said "What about you?" I just froze.

"Uhm, what were we talking about?" I ask sheepishly, Yaku just rolls his eyes playfully.

"We were talking about summer vacation remember?" I nod, clearly he wanted more because he continues, "you just about to tell me what you're doing for summer break..."

"Oh right! My family and I are..." my voice trails off as I remember the call from last night.

~~~~ Dramatic Flashback ~~~~
"I'm sorry Lev, I know you were looking forward to our trip to Chile this summer. But your sister's college just offered her an extracurricular course over here! So we're gonna stay with her, isn't great!" I tried not to show my disappointment, I've been looking forward to that trip since forever.
"Of course it's okay," I lie, "I'm really proud of her," I tell my dad as I feel hot tears pool up in my eyes. "Tell her I said 'hi!'"
"Will do son, and look on the bright side this gives you more of a chance to find a romance you're thinking about," I nod as silent tears slipped down my face.
"Night dad," I got a goodnight back and hung up. It would've been okay if that was the only time, but it wasn't, one time my parents missed one of my really big Volleyball games because of my sister's play. I guess that's why I play so I have a new family.
~~~~ End Dramatic Flashback ~~~~

"Were," I corrected myself. "We were going to go to Chile, but plans changed. Now it looks like I'll be alone, but it gives me time to practice on my crappy receives, Right!" I try and laugh off the awkwardness, I can tell Yaku's worried about me because of the look he gives me.

"You know, It's hard to practice receives by yourself." I silently nod as the waitress sets our meals down in front of us. I dig in while Yaku still looks at me, his mouth twisted downwards slightly in a cute way. "Would you mind if I helped you with your receives this summer?"

At that, I choked on my pancakes, Yaku was cute in an 'I want to snuggle you' type of way. I was a big awkward guy, my arms and legs were too long for comfort and I was a little quirky, I also thought that up until today Yaku hated me. I guess I was wrong, there is still a pretty good chance that he doesn't like me like I like him.

'Stop', I tell myself. 'If you like him it'll ruin your new family. And we can't have that, you just found them.' At that, I eased any thought about how good of a boyfriend he would make out of my head. I soon realized I was staring at him and still didn't answer his question.

"Yeah, that'd be great," the rest of the time at the dinner was smooth sailing. Soon enough it was seven o'clock and we hear the rain pouring outside.

"It's only supposed to get worse kiddos," the old lady behind the counter says as she dries a coffee mug. That's when the sky decided it was a good time to add lights to the water show, thunder boomed across the sky and lighting hit the road.
