Chapter 2

The sun shone down on me, it's rays piercing my squinting eyes as I scanned the beach. I stood at the edge of the water, unable to find him anywhere. People walked by me quickly, not stopping their beach stroll. Where is he? Why did he let me get lost? I'm alone, they're going to forget about me and leave me here. Why aren't they looking? Why couldn't mommy just go swimming with me too?

A girl in a red bikini was suddenly crouching down in front of me, she had a red cross on the center of her top.

"Did you lose your parents? Who are you with?

I tried to speak but my voice trembled as I started to cry. "I-I was swimming with my Dad but then I came out of the water and I don't know where he went!" I shivered, biting my fingernail, shaking in fear.

"Okay, it's okay, I bet he is looking for you too. I think the waves moved you down the beach from where you guys were sitting. Do you know which way you came from?"

I pointed my finger to one side of me, and she looked down the shoreline.

"Okay, did you guys bring an umbrella today?"

I nodded, sniffling.

"Okay, do you know what color it is?"

"Rainbow."

"Greta!" I suddenly heard from behind me, and the girl stood up straight as I felt him grab my shoulder to turn me around.

I threw my arms around his neck as he picked me up, squeezing me.

"Thank you so much, we were swimming and a wave came and suddenly she was gone!"

"It's okay, just remember that when the blue flag is flying..." The voices trailed off as the water suddenly receded towards the ocean. I tried to tell my Dad but he wouldn't listen. A wave towered over the beach, blocking the sun. I watched it come towards us, crashing over our heads.

I woke up, sitting up quickly. The room I was in was dark, although a hazy light seeped through the curtains. I had never been in this room before, and it certainly was not a hotel room. The bed was huge, and I was covered by a red and gold duvet. The windows were trimmed with a golden color, and the bed itself and furniture were a dark wooden color.

I got up quickly, confused. What happened? Airport, Plane, Airport, Limo...I passed out in the limo. I needed to go to the hospital. This is not a hospital. I went over quickly to the large double doors on one side of the room, and opened them. A dark hallway greeted me. It had a deep red oriental carpet, and pedestals along the walls with various little statues and items. A lantern was in the opposite corner, illuminating it. I rushed quickly down the hallway, coming to a very open room.

"You're awake."

I shrieked and jumped from the voice behind me, whipping around. A man stood a few feet from me, just staring at me.

I did not know what to say, I was frozen in fear. "W-what's going on?" I asked in a trembling voice. He took a step closer to me, and I could see his face more now. I recognized this man. He was in the limo with me! He was the guy in the limo with me!

"You! What is going on?" I asked, panicking.

"I did not expect you to drink the water so fast." His arms moved to cross over his chest. He was wearing a black button up, a black tie, black pants, black everything basically.

"The-the water? The water! What do you mean? I have to go to the hospital!" I exclaimed. I managed to sort the situation out. The driver must have done something to the water, and this man must have taken me to his home-or whatever this place was-instead of the hospital.
