Prologue

I ran into my room and put a pillow over my head to drown out the screams of my mum and the yelling from my dad. This always happens. Every night. Screaming and yelling. I always get locked in my room until it's over. I always comfort my mum the best way I can. I'm only 5 so I don't really know why mummy is always screaming and daddy's yelling.

This time dad made the mistake of locking the door. I walked to the door and tried to open it and the first time ever it worked. I walked my little body down stairs and saw daddy was hitting mummy. She was crying. I looked at her and she saw me. I started crying and ran over to mummy. I told daddy to stop but he didn't listen. I ran upstairs and found the phone. Mummy taught me to call 911 so I pressed the numbers.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"Why dwoes daddy make my mummy cwy? Why does he hit her? Why dwoes he lock me upstairs? I dwon't wike it when he does or when my mummy cwies."

"Honey were is your mom and dad right now?"

"Downstairs"

"Is your dad hitting your mom right now?"

" I tink so"

"OK sweetie, the cops are on there way, but let's talk ok."

I talked to the lady for a lot then the police came and took away my dad. The last thing he said to me was "How could you call the cops on me? You will never live that down Autumn NEVER! I will get you back one day. You will get what's coming for you. No one will EVER love you. EVER! YOUR NOTHING! I NEVER LOVED YOU! OR YOUR MOM" I didn't understand because I was 5, but as I got older those words never left my head. Those are the words that made me stay away from the world, because when you trust people and love them they always stab you in the back. That is the one thing my dad taught me nothing else.
