Layton's p.o.v

21 months, it's been 21 months since high school ended and I began a new chapter of my life. Let me fill you in on how things have been going.

Cassidy and I decided on sharing an apartment, we found a place situated midway between both our colleges, I loved having him as a roommate, he cleaned up after himself and didn't leave the toilet seat up plus he was a damn good cook. I think I might keep him around forever.

After his break up with Rose he did act like a fish out of water but soon found his groove once more. He had been on a few dates but a relationship was the last thing on his mind.

Rose was still travelling the globe and would send me a postcard wherever she adventured, she often urged me to join her but I spent my semester breaks volunteering at a youth shelter.

She would often ask how Cass was doing but I couldn't play devil's advocate or be impartial I would simply answer 'he's great'

Law school was tedious to say the least, there was so many nights I stayed up studying cases and doing research, but this was my perseverance to make a change. I reminded myself it would all be worth it in the end. A few months ago my father's term in office had come to an end and he decided to rerun for senator.

Cass and I actually are working on his campaign team and let me tell you politics is no fun at all.

Jamie had graduated from the police academy and was now officially a policeman, our relationship had gone back to normal, he even had a girlfriend for about a month but then got bored, he insists on been a bachelor and creating his paradise. He ended up taking a position in our hometown of Lightwood Heights and when he came to visit me, would fill me on everything that was happening there, like seriously that boy has no filter.

Ever since prom, Rick and I had been texting and our friendship blossomed. He had successfully completed his undercover mission and was now back on the force. He was looking to transfer out, he felt he had outgrown the area and its people.

We actually developed a tradition, once in every 3 months we would go to the farm and feed the lambs- weird yet it felt like normalcy.

Now the big question on everyone's mind (Like seriously people I'm getting there, have some patience) - what became of Kiandre Jacobsen? The only man that holds my heart up until this day.

I could write poetry on how he had captivated me and how the very thought of him would send me on an adventure of bliss- only to be slapped back into reality , you know what they say, fleeting moments and all that shit oh and been a only a chapter in someone's book. Perhaps I should take Rose's advice 'the only way to get over someone is to get under somebody else'.

Well from what Jamie had told me (that's right the two of them would often run into each other), Kiandre had decided to take all his classes online and ended up becoming assistant manager at the café. His mom finally admitted she had a problem and was getting the help she needed.

Yeah that's all I know, since graduation I haven't heard from him, not one call or message, I thought we would at least be friends that way someday things would be easier to pick up where we left off romantically.

It was like he was upset with me uhmm hello I'm the one that should have a bruised ego yet I still love him and have no idea if he still feels the same way, is our time apart giving him time to fall in love with someone else?

Am I holding onto false hopes? Well you can't move forward in life if you stay weighed down by the past, maybe now after almost 2 years it's time to move on.

Kiandre's p.o.v

21 months, 91 weeks, 639 days, 15330 hours. These are just numbers to the naked eye yet to me they signify every moment I've been away from Layton.

It's been excruciating to say the least but I'm nowhere close to being the man that's going to make her the happiest women alive- or perhaps she was happy living a life of simplicity with me but I want to give her so much more, so I just have to keep working and hope when I'm ready she will welcome me with opened arms ,if not well then I'm screwed because she wasn't just some high school crush, she's the love of my life , I didn't need to meet a 100 women to find the one.

Now that I know Layton exists, it will always be her for me and I'm not accepting replacements.

I was surprised to see Jamie working here, I honestly thought he was going to swoop in on Layton when we broke up and move away with her- guess he valued their friendship more than anything, maybe that's something I should have done at least then I would have some idea on what's going on in her life.

I have been seeing her, well besides in my dreams, on TV with her dad campaigning and boy did she look like everything I've ever wanted. Jamie did tell me that she's doing good and living with Cass, at least I know she is safe.

Enough wallowing in self-pity, I brought this on myself, I had a choice to make and did. I have faith Layton and I will find our way back to each other. Taking mechanical engineering classes online wasn't my best decision it's been rough but somehow I'm excelling at it.

With Tyler finishing up high school this year it allows me some more room to exist as my own person, I will finish my final year actually attending lectures yeah look at me been a functioning member of society surprising right?

At least my friendships with Jeremy and Nigel were still pretty solid and surprisingly even Rose would send me a postcard every now and again which I did appreciate, Cass obviously still hated me and I didn't even blame him.

End of p.o.v

Back at Blue Falls (The town Layton and Cass live in)

"And where are you off to looking all spiffy, a hot date perhaps?" Layton playfully mocks Cass

"Well it is a Friday evening, I'm not planning on staying home in my pj's watching The Simpsons like somebody I know, one of us has to associate with the outside world" he quickly comebacks

"Hey Bart is my spirit animal and I was out all day 'associating with the world', I deserve some peace"

"Doesn't a spirit animal have to be an actual animal- you know what never mind, tomorrow night we are finding a party to crash no arguments" before Layton could protest someone rang the doorbell.

"That might be my date, I need some gum, get the door would you." He pats Layton on the head and rushes of. She goes to answer the door in her rainbow pajamas.

"Guess which super qualified, extremely talented officer, on the verge of making detective is Blue Falls newest addition, cute pj's by the way" Rick starts pointing his thumbs towards himself and raising his eyebrows at Layton. "That's right, it is I, he is me."
