Layton's p.o.v

Did you know spicy isn't a naturally occurring taste? It's actually a pain signal produced by your nerve receptors. This has got me thinking about the enigma that is love- what if it's not a naturally occurring emotion? What if the feelings produced by love is the body's reaction to future pains- basically love is a catalyst for pain.

Okay give me a break here this maybe the onset of delirium kicking in, I haven't had a goodnights sleep in god knows when, I really did get used to Kiandre warming my bed, now the coldness just reminds me of how alone I am.

Our friends took our break up as a complete shock while others took it as a chance to say "I told you so" "He was scum" "You two are from different worlds". The worst part was Kiandre wasn't around- I had to deal with the pitiful eyes and whispers while he was off doing who the hell knows. I didn't resent or hate him, I just wish I knew how he was doing, the last thing I wanted was for him to have a downward spiral and for the streets of South Heights to claim him once more.

End of p.o.v

"Earth to Layton" Cassidy waves his hands in front of her

Layton is snapped back to the present

"Did you hear what I said?"

"Uhhm no sorry Cass, my mind is all over the place"

"Well we need to get it together, I just heard some teachers talking, Kiandre dropped out of school and turned down all his scholarships. You need to get some sense into him Lay"

"It's not my place anymore Cass, we broke up. What he does with his life is a result of his own decisions"

"Bullshit, he's digging himself into a ditch and you are the only one that can pull him out. So let's go" Cassidy takes Layton's hand and the two head off to find Kiandre.

After some checking out his work place to no avail, the friends find Kiandre at a rundown basketball in S.H , casually smoking, his hair was messy and dark circles danced along his eyes. His famous leather jacket

and black jeans , all the things that looked like home to Layton was standing in front of her but never seemed further away

and black jeans , all the things that looked like home to Layton was standing in front of her but never seemed further away. She smacked the cigarette out of his hand.

"What are you doing her Bellis...Layton? And Cass why are you bringing her to these places it isn't safe. Leave now"

"Not until we've spoken, listen here and listen good. You are coming home with me and getting cleaned up, then we are going straight back to school and you are sorting out your mess." Layton demanded him

"What are you my mother?"

"Well someone needs to act like the adult here, Look at yourself Kia, is this what your father would have wanted? Is this how you want me to remember you? - as the opposite of the man I fell in love with?"

"Look man we promise to help you find a way to balance what you have going on. You just need to let us" Cass speaks up

Layton's words cut Kiandre and somewhat awoken him from his trance.

"Go wait in the car Cass, Layton and I will meet you there in a minute" Kiandre mutters

"You came, you came despite me pushing you away" he takes Layton's hand and holds it against his chest "Thank you for bringing me back to my senses"

Layton removes her hand from his chest, a look of disappointment formed in his eyes while a sincere smile formed on her face.

"Just because we aren't together doesn't mean you have lost the person that will stand beside you in your battles. The sun and the moon may share the same canvas and love for bringing light but they are two separate entities that coexist" she begins walking away

"You are my sun and moon and I am but just the earth that would be a dark pit of despair if not for you" he shouts before following her.

Kiandre had managed to sort out things at school and accepted a scholarship to Lightwood University. The gang had been putting their minds together to try and help him, eventually he did manage to get guardianship of his siblings. They moved into a cozy little apartment with the help from Mr. Cruz.

As for his mother well she ended up at a women's shelter because she still refused to get help for her drinking problem. He had Layton were somewhat 'friends' just exchanging pleasantries and longing looks

Things between Rose and Cass took a nasty turn, he had begged her to move away with him next year but she decided she wanted to travel. Basically the group was now split in two.

Guess when Stephen King wrote "love is the old slaughterer. Love is not blind. Love is a cannibal with extremely acute vision. Love is insectile, it is always hungry- and what does it eat? - Friendship" he was completely right.

Senior prom and finals were fast approaching. Rose and Cassidy had decided to still go together and have one last night of bliss before calling it quits and going their separate ways. Kiandre had made it clear he had no intention of attending the dance leaving Layton feeling a bit down in the dumps, she had still hoped he would be her prince for at least one night.

Looks like their reconciliation wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

It was a Saturday evening and Layton was busy studying away for her upcoming finals, she had received her acceptance letter into law school and it was only a few miles away from the college Cass would be attending so least she wouldn't be surrounded by complete strangers. There was a knock at the door (Deja-vu am I right?), she had gotten up to answer it and to her surprise it was Jamie.

"I've been an idiot" he grabs onto her and doesn't let go

"What's new there?" she lets out a faint giggle

"Cass filled me in on everything, I'm so sorry. I pushed you away because I was afraid of hurting you yet that was exactly what I was doing. I'm a real fool right?"

"Of course I was going to fall in love with you, you are everything and more to me, I should've handled things better for us. I need you in my life no matter what your title is. Look I'm not here making my move because you and Kiandre broke up let me make that clear.

I'm here because life isn't the same without my person so can I have her back? Can we go back to how things were? I need my best friend, I'd rather have you close even if it might hurt for a while, than not knowing if you're safe or need me."

"I was so scared Jamie things were just not right, like life was incomplete. You missed out on so much you have to make it up to me, so for now you're on probation."

"I can live with that" Jamie holds out a bottle of whiskey "Now let's catch up shall we?"

The two spend their night rekindling their friendship while watching trashy movies. Eventually Jamie had phoned Rick to join them. The 3 enjoyed each other's company and forgot their troubles and worries for one night. - was this is a glimpse of the future? Was this going to be the new normal, the new trio?

Layton had gone into the kitchen to fetch some more popcorn. Jamie took the opportunity to lean over and whispered something to Rick. "Hey man, I need a favor......"
