BROOKLYN SMILED AT the fans in the crowd happily, blowing a kiss to a girl who screamed loudly at the simple gesture.
"hi guys! thank you for all the support on my first ever single! i wouldn't be here today if it weren't for all of you spreading my song and helping others be able to relate to it, i'm forever grateful for y'all." she spoke into the microphone, the smile never leaving her face.
"so, why don't i sing it for you guys now?" she asked and the crowd screamed loudly, making brooklyn wince but continue to smile anyways.
she began strumming the chords on her guitar, her smile faltering as she began to sing "i still remember, third of december..." she sang, looking out at the crowd.
as brooklyn sang, her eyes landed on the one person she hoped would never learn about her song. heather.
the blonde stood in the crowd with tears in her eyes as she stared into brooklyn's, causing brooklyn to shiver and look away from the girl who caused her so much depression the year before.
that's how long it had been since brooklyn last saw heather, exactly a year. after xander and brooklyn started dating heather moved away.
she didn't even say goodbye to anyone, so nobody knew why she left. it was as if the girl was merely just a fairy tale that everyone had created in their heads.
after heather and her family's random disappearance, nobody saw vinnie for a month after, but when he came back to school he acted as if nothing happened and that heather didn't even exist.
brooklyn remembered how irritated she was when he came back to school that day, his hair in its usual messy state as he loudly talked with his friends about their tiktok followers.
as brooklyn finished the song, heather suddenly started barreling towards the stage, and got caught midair by a security guard "let her up." brooklyn told him and he raised an eyebrow, but complied anyways.
brooklyn said her goodbye to her fans a took a bow then hurriedly pulled heather offstage with her, hurrying into her dressing room and closing the door.
"heather this is conan, conan this is heather. he helped me write my song about uh. you." brooklyn introduced the two awkwardly.
heather waved at him then looked over at brooklyn "can um- can i talk to you alone?" heather asked and brooklyn nodded "yeah sure. conan you can go see how many snacks they'll let you sneak onto the bus." brooklyn suggested and the boy grinned and quickly ran out of the room.
"what's up?" brooklyn asked, sitting at her vanity and using a makeup wipe to take off her makeup "were you and vinnie dating?" heather asked and brooklyn paused, looking at her in the mirror "yeah.. you didn't know?" she asked and heather shook her head.
"he told me you two were just best friends, and that you liked him but he didn't feel the same way." heather told her, leaning against the vanity so she could look at her and not her reflection.
brooklyn took in the girls appearance, she was wearing a hoodie with a stain on it, paired with leggings and dirty white converse. her hair was in a messy ponytail and it looked like she hadn't slept for months.
"heather?" brooklyn asked quietly and the blonde hummed in response, watching the tv screen that was playing teen titans on mute.
"what happened to you?" she asked and heather laughed dryly "i got heartbroken, so i left town." she answered simply, causing brooklyn to tilt her head "by vinnie?" brooklyn asked and heather shook her head, not saying anything further.
"are you and xander still together?" heather asked and brooklyn took a deep breath "no.. he moved for his dads new job and i didn't want to hold him back from anything." she explained and heather nodded slowly.
"what about you? any boyfriends?"brooklyn asked and the girl shook her head "no.. because the person i want is way out of my league." heather sighed, looking up at the ceiling's intricate designs as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.
"what? heather you could get any guy you want and all you'd have to do is walk up and ask for a kiss." brooklyn laughed, but heather didn't.
"not with the person i want." heather mumbled and brooklyn gave her a look "just try it! i bet you they want to kiss you just as much as you want to kiss them." brooklyn reassured her.
heather sighed and looked back down at brooklyn, a tear making its way down her cheek "but why would you ever kiss me?" she asked quietly, causing brooklyn to pause and stare at the blonde in pure shock.
"wh-what?" brooklyn asked and heather sniffled, opening her mouth to speak again when the door slammed open and conan ran in with a bunch of snacks, dumping them on the vanity table.
"okay we have ten minutes to stuff these in my suitcase, and dip." conan explained to brooklyn who laughed and shook her head "you start i just wanna talk to heather really quick." she told him and he nodded, grabbing the snacks and throwing them down on the floor next to his suitcase.
brooklyn shook her head and turned around to where was sat, but to her surprise heather was gone. the girl had left her life again with not even a trace to where she had gone.
