"Ok, ok!", Ash waved frantically, "just don't scream ok. God, you're crazy", he weaved his hands through his buzz haircut, though there wasn't much to weave it through.
Kamara puffed out air from her lips with a smug smile on her face.
She paused and took in Ash's features. While most men in Elenore grew out their hair, his was cut really low, almost to his scalp level. It was hard to tell the colour but from where she stood it looked almost Ash like, greyish of a sort. He also had a serious demeanor, even when he joked it was like only half his mind was in the joke. Then there was his eyes. In the dim lighting of the room they looked sad, grey and sad.
Was everything about this guy grey?
"Well", she stood akimbo, "what are you waiting for?", Let me pass.
Ash let out a chuckle, "do you think I'm crazy enough to let you out on your own? You'd get caught before you even made it out the door".
He armed himself as he spoke, putting daggers into his boot. Then sheathed two swords into his back scabbard. Kamara caught a glimpse of the swords in the moonlight and gasped.
They were Elfin swords. She spent most of her life playing with swords to be able to spot the craftsmanship. And plus, the art of dual sword wielding was common among the elf kind.
"That's a lot of weaponry for a common thief", she remarked
"Common? You wound me sweetheart. There is nothing common about me".
So true, she thought
"I'm just saying", she raised her hands in defense. "It's quite rare for a wielder to possess such weapons".
"Honey, I'm a red. Not really a suitable power for dangerous situations. A guy has to protect himself. It's a tough world out there".
"Your swords though, they're not from around here. The craftsmanship, it's ancient".
"You don't say", he adjusted his strap not saying anything else.
Kay took it as a cue to change the topic, she didn't want him changing his mind about letting her go.
"You know for a thief that's supposed to blend in, you seem to want to make yourself stand out", she nudged her head in direction of his hair.
He sighed, "and for a stranger, you're becoming too chatty".
"Kamara", she said.
"Sorry?", He pulled on his Cloak and dragged the hood over his head.
"My name. Kamara. I'm no longer a stranger now am I? My friends call me Kay".
"Well Kamara, then it's good we're not friends. Let's go", he moved towards the door.
"You won't tell me your name", she paused then added, "thief".
He smiled, "I guess that still makes me a stranger then. I'd like to keep it that way". He dashed out of the door and leaped down.
"Wait! Don't I get a weapon?". But he didn't hear her. She ran after him. That's when Kamara noticed that the hideout was a storey above the ground. She mimicked his movements rolling on the ground.
Ash nodded in approval seeing her make the jump. "Where do we go now?"
"I stay at Littlestone", she offered.
"The middle class neighborhood?" He asked, she nodded. "Ok then, stay close". Then he took off, keeping his feet light.
The duo ran through the streets using the shadow of houses as their cover and trying to stay out of the sights of the palace guards that were everywhere.
