jaemin felt uncomfortable. the volunteers and the kids were scattered around the whole orphanage but jaemin sat on one of the couches at the lounge, along with the other volunteers and some younger orphans running around.
he was both nervous and uncomfortable but one of these volunteers might be a potential foster parent so he had to show off some of his 'charms'. when he heard from chenle that he was getting adopted, jaemin felt jealous. of course chenle has a history whenever people want to adopt him but it still doesn't change the fact that they like chenle way more than they liked jaemin.
chenle's new foster parents- mr. and mrs. han, jaemin tried so hard to impress them. everytime they smile at jaemin for doing unnecessary orphanage work, he thought he was one step closer to being adopted but he was wrong. despite trying to be happy for his friend, he couldn't help but get depressed over the fact that he hoped they'd adopt him.
jaemin was so embarrassed when renjun talked to him about it. apparently, renjun noticed how hard jaemin tried to impress the couple and jaemin remembered renjun calling it a 'pitiful sight'. it made jaemin cry and he felt so pathetic, it was a good thing he was doing chores at that time with renjun at the back of the orphanage so no one really saw him weep.
renjun always had a weird way of comforting jaemin. sure jaemin and renjun have arguments over ninety-nine percent of the time but they're best friends. he understands that renjun have some difficulty in expressing himself so even if renjun gets harsh with his words sometimes, jaemin usually just ignores it. this time though, it's a little different as jaemin really felt depressed.
"tone it down a little renjun-ah, i'm really not feeling well right now." jaemin said with a sigh as he folds the other kids clothes. he's really feeling bad because he should be happy- happy for chenle, one of his closest words. he can't believe he's behaving like this now, of all the times.
"please, like you ever care about what i say." renjun said, lazily moving the laundry baskets. he'd push it with his feet but he doesn't want jaemin nagging at him. jaemin was trying to distract himself with the chores and didn't even bothered with renjun who's seemingly initiating a teasing session. "and i also think you should stop with the cringy aegyos you give to visitors. it's weird when people our age do it, you know." renjun added, expecting a funny reaction from jaemin.
but jaemin stopped, putting down the clothes he's folding and sighing. renjun also stopped moving the laundry baskets, curious as to why jaemin stopped but he was more worried that his teasing got to him.
"renjun," jaemin called, turning around to face him and he looks serious.
"what?" at this point, renjun doesn't want to hear it but it's pointless to run away now.
"you're so mean." jaemin said, in a slightly high-pitched voice, crossing his arms and pouting his lips.
"what the f-"
"I DARE YOU SAY THAT WORD!" jaemin suddenly shouted when renjun was about to curse.
"-fudge..." renjun hesitantly continues. renjun just can't adjust to jaemin's personality at some times. for renjun, it just seems that jaemin can be predictable but then he pulls stuff like this and he'll realize he's talking to jaemin. pulling stuff like this is exactly like him, kind of like predictably unpredictable or whatever you call it.
"now go back to work." jaemin said, doing an aegyo again with a huge smile and trying to shoo him away, so he could go back to his chores.
