The trio sat around a table, discussing ideas and their plan of action. It was hard, with such limited action. All they knew was that Alyra’s life was in danger.
Dario had found the strength to sit up and discuss with the girls, although he found himself quite flustered as they bombarded him with questions.
Suddenly, Evalyn’s eyes flicked open wide as she asked “Dario, can you explain EXACTLY what the dog you found nailed to the back of the cubicle door looked like? Because, when I saw the photos, there was more blood on the floor then there would have been for just a dog. Maybe, if this thing is coming after Alyra, it was an animorph?”
She looked hopefully at Dario looking for answers. Alyra nodded her head at the idea; it was possible. While she had never seen anyone like her before, they had to exist somewhere.
Dario closed his eyes “Uhh, it could have been. It didn’t look like just a dog. It looked like it had been cross with something…a wolf I think…wait…” Dario stood up awkwardly shoved his hand in his pocket. “I forgot about this when I fainted…” He pulled out a plastic zip lock bag filled with blood “I collected it...for, uh, research. I could try and determine what species it comes from in my lab”
Alyra was ready to mock Dario’s ‘lab’ which was really just a room with a microscope in it, but now was not the time for joking. She nodded and stood up, reaching a hand out to pull Evalyn up too.
Dario walked out the front door only to be greeted by Evalyn and Alyra who had simply jumped out the window. He rolled his eyes and unlocked his door letting them all in. They all walked into Dario’s ‘lab’, the third room on the left, which basically had nothing in it but tables and chairs, but as the girls walked to the microscope, Dario called them over to the other side of the room.
He lifted a painting to reveal a keypad. His fingers flittered about hitting random keys before he stepped back. The wall opened up and the girls jaws dropped. Behind the wall was a full on, high tec, fully functioning operational and frankly, super cool lab.
Dario plucked three coats and pairs of glasses and handed them back. Alyra tried to put them on, and then realized her ears were in fact on top of her head. She chuckled and gave up with the glasses, shoving them in her pocket instead.
