We pulled into the motel parking lot and got out. I followed the brothers into the lobby where an older man was sitting behind the counter. Dean took out a credit card and tossed it onto the counter. " One room please.'' he said. The man behind the desk picked up the card and analyzed it.
"You guy's having a reunion or something?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked.
"I had another guy, Burt Aframian. He came and bought out a room for the whole month." The man explained, Dean and Sam shared a look. I guess they know him. We left saying we were going to stop by and see this guy. Sam crouched down and began picking the lock.
"So who is this guy?" I asked Dean.
"He's our dad. He's been missing for a few days." Dean replied.
"Wait, you guys are brothers?" I responded shocked.
"Yea, Sammy here is my baby brother." Dean boasted. I smiled at his obvious love for his brother. I heard a click and turned to see the door swinging open. I followed Sam in while Dean was still outside. Sam reached out and grabbed Dean's jacket and yanked him in, closing the door afterwards. I looked around the room with wide eyes. There were news paper articles, pictures, maps, and handwritten notes covering the walls.
"Woah." Sam stated.
"Yea..." I trailed off. "Your dad put a lot of work into researching this case." Dean turned on a lamp. I walked farther in and began to look at the articles.
"I don't think he's been here for a couple days at least." Dean told us.
"Salt, cat's eye shells, he was worried... Trying to keep something from coming in." Sam said. The brothers came to my side. "What have you got here?"
"Centennial Highway victims." I responded.
"I don't get it. Different men, different jobs, ages, ethnicities. There's always a connection right? What do these guys have in common?" Dean asked.
"That's what we're here to find out." I replied.
Sam turned to continue looking around the room while Dean and I continued to analyze the articles on the victims. After a pause I heard Sam turn on on another light and huff "Dad figured it out."
Dean and I turned to see what he was looking at. "What do you mean?" we both asked. I glanced at Dean and he gave an equally weirded out expression in response. Creepy jinx, but whatever.
"He found the same article we did. Constance Welch, she's a woman in white.'' Sam explained. I glanced over all the articles and shrugged.
"Makes sense." I replied.
"You sly dogs." Dean whistled looking at the pictures of missing men. "Alright so if we're dealing with a woman in white, dad would have found the corpse and destroyed it."
"Her corpse might not be what's keeping her here." I said.
"Katie's right, she might have another weakness." Sam agreed.
"No dad would want to make sure, he'd dig her up." Dean persisted. I rolled my eyes, it was easy to tell his dad was Deans idol. I walked over to Sam's side to look at the article on Constance.
"Does it say where she was buried?" I asked while giving the article a quick once over.
"No, not that I can tell.' Sam replied. "If I were dad though I'd ask her husband. If he's still alive." He pointed to an article with a picture of Constance's husband.
Dean came over as well at this point and read the article over my shoulder. He gave a bit of a sigh, "Alright why don't you two try to find an address. I'm gonna get cleaned up." He stated.
"Hey Dean. What I said earlier about mom and dad, I'm sorry." Sam started, but Dean held up his hand cutting him off.
"No chick flick moments." was all he had to say.
Sam huffed, "Alright...jerk."
"Bitch." Dean shot back with a little smirk. I laughed at their exchange.
"Okay I'll head back to my room and get to work on the address." I told Sam. "I'll be right back, I'm just down the hall." He nodded and I left the room and headed towards my own. When I got in, I pulled out my phone, and dialed Andy's.
"What now?" Andy answered, sounding slightly exasperated.
"Hello to you too." I chuckled.
"Sorry, what do you need?" Andy corrected her greeting I laughed at my friend.
"I need an address for a Joseph Welch." I relayed the request.
"Is that the husband of the Sylvania Bridge suicide woman?" She asked.
"Yea, it seems like she might be a woman in white." I sat down on the bed and started taking off my shoes.
"Oh that would make sense, I read about how she found her kids drowned in the bathtub. Man that would suck. Alright I'm pulling up the information now, I'll text it to you." Andy rattled off, I could hear her typing on the keyboard of her computer.
"Thanks Andy, you're the best." I told her.
"Tell me something I don't know." She laughed. "I'll talk to you later, bye Katie." With those words she hung up. I chuckled, no matter how many years go by that woman never changes. I pulled off my remaining boot, then walked to the bathroom to freshen up. Pulling off my jacked I prodded the new lightly forming bruise on my forearm. I shrugged sending slight pain through my arm. Now I wish I had just fallen into the water, but I suppose not smelling like a toilet was a bonus. I pinned up my hair and hopped in the shower to rinse off. Once that was done I put on a fresh pair of jeans and a clean tank top. After I put back on my boots I grabbed my jacket and headed back for the boys' room. Once there I knocked on the door once before walking back in. Sam, who had been reclined back on the bed sat up once I entered the room.
"Hey so I got a hold of a friend she's sending over the address for Joseph Welch." I told Sam sitting down at the table, throwing my jacket down on the chair across from me.
"That's great, you work fast." Sam smiled. I chuckled in response.
"Oh I just do the heavy lifting, or in this case the actual hunting part of the job. My friend does all the research." I explained. My phone buzzed letting me know there was a message. I pulled out my phone and read the address on the message from Andy. I held the phone out to Sam. He took the phone and read the text and nodded his confirmation.
"Looks like this system works for you pretty well." Sam concluded.
"We do our best." I replied leaning back in the chair and closing my eyes, figuring I'd rest my eyes a bit while Dean finished up in the bathroom.
"Hey I'm gonna check a message really quick, 'Kay?" Sam stated. I hummed my acknowledgement and I faintly heard a voice from his messaging system.
At this point Dean finally came out of the bathroom. "Hey man I'm starving, I'm gonna grab something to eat at the dinner down the street. You want anything? Aframian's buying." I opened my eyes to see Sam shaking his head. Dean turned to me, "What about you Kate?"
"Sure, since your offering," I responded, "I'll eat whatever" I replied. Dean nodded and left. Sam was still on the phone, when he pulled it away and answered another call.
"What?" he answered. He stood up, making me follow suite. "What about you?" After a short reply from whoever was on the line, he put his phone in his pocket and grabbed a couple of things, and tossed me my jacket.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Cops." Sam responded, peering out the window. I strode over to the bathroom and headed for the window that was identical to the one in my motel room. I glanced back towards Sam.
"Sam!" I motioned him over. Turning back to the window I eased it open and lifted myself up and out. It took him a little longer than me, but as soon as Sam was also out the window we took off.
