"This is Andy, if your situation is important you should be contacting me face to face, so if not, you know what to do." Andy's voicemail answered what felt like my millionth call. The phone beeped telling me to start recording my message.
"Hey Andy, it's...it's Kate...again. I'm not sure why, your not answering my calls. But I...I'm getting worried about you. It's been almost a week since I've heard from you. Anyways, the Winchesters and I are headed out to Blackwater Ridge Colorado. Thought you should know, call me back okay." I closed my phone giving up on calling my currently MIA friend.
"She still not answering your calls?" Dean asked from the front seat of the Impala. Sam was asleep in the passenger seat next to him. I sat forward, leaning over the seat so I could talk to the elder brother.
"No..." I sighed. "What if something's wrong, she always picks up on the third ring.... I'm really worried Dean." I confessed.
"Hey I'm sure she's fine." he replied sympathetically. I nodded, I know he understands, after all I'm sure he's feeling the same thing because of the situation with his dad. Just then Sam jolted awake. Dean and I exchanged looks, then turned our attention back to the younger Winchester.
"You okay?" Dean asked his brother.
"Yea, I'm fine." Sam replied rubbing his eyes, Dean nodded slightly in response.
"Another nightmare?" I asked, giving Sam a concerned glance. Sam cleared his throat obviously not wanting to talk about it.
"Want to drive for a while?" Dean asked, obviously trying to cheer his brother up, because I don't think Dean would ever let anyone else drive his 'baby'.
"Dean, your whole life, you've never once asked me that." Sam laughed.
"Just thought you might want to, never mind." Dean grumbled. Shaking my head I glanced down at my phone flipping it open hoping that there might be a new message from Andy.
"Look man, your worried about me and I get it. Thank you, both of you, but, I'm perfectly okay."
"Mm hmm." Dean and I hummed, not believing that statement at all.
"Alright where are we?" Sam asked grabbing a map and effectively changing the subject.
"We are just outside of Grand Junction." Dean replied. I leaned forward even more over the seat to look at the map with Sam.
"You know what?" Sam started, folding the map down to show the red 'X' marked 35-111, "Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon." I leaned back into the seat and stared out the window. I was doing my best to remove myself from the conversation. Over the course of this 16 and a half hour drive, this topic had been brought up a few times, and it always ended with both brothers more agitated.
"Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you want to find the thing that killed Jessica..." Dean started explaining.
"We got to find dad first." Sam finished his brothers statement for him. I opened my phone bored with the scenery and checked for messages. Dean glanced at me through the rear view mirror.
"Dad disappearing and this thing showing up again after twenty years, there's no coincidence." Dean told him, "Dad'll have answers, he'll know what to do." I nodded silently agreeing with him. During the drive they had filled me in on a couple of things about their situation. One of those things was how a demon had killed their mother in the same way Jess had been killed. That was all that they really told me, and I didn't ask for more information, it seemed like a touchy subject.
"It's weird man, these coordinates he left us.... this Blackwater Ridge...." Sam trailed off staring at the map.
"Yea, what about it?" Dean asked.
"There's nothing there." Sam replied. "It's just woods. Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?" I hummed slightly, acknowledging that the situation was a little weird. Sam took notice and asked about it, "Did Andy call you back Kate?"
"No she hasn't." I sighed closing the phone and leaning over the seat again, "Andy Pierce has gone MIA." After a couple moments I flipped open my phone again only this time it was ripped from my hands by Dean. "Hey!" I cried out. Reaching for my cellular device but failing to do so because Dean was driving, and I didn't want to be the reason we crashed and get yelled at for wrecking the car. So I watched as Dean slipped it into his pocket.
"You will get this back when you have relaxed and you stop worrying about your friend." Dean told me. I huffed, and slouched back into the seat figuring Dean wouldn't budge on this matter. Sam chuckled at our interaction.

We finally made it to Lost Creek Colorado, where Blackwater Ridge was located. We made our way into the Ranger station. I started looking around with Sam. "So Blackwater Ridge is pretty remote. It's cut off by these canyons here. Rough terrain, dense forrest abandonded silver and gold mines all over the place." Sam started explaining the terrain to me and Dean.
"So I'll pack lot's of bug spray." I joked, Sam laughed in response.
"Dude check out the size of this friggin bear." Dean called from behind us. We turned to look at him, grinning as he checked out a photo framed on the wall.
"Yogi needs a diet." I muttered causing Dean's grin to widen
"And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area." Sam added, finishing up his report of the area.
"Got it. I'll bring bear spray as well." I replied.
"It's definately no nature hike." Sam summed up, ignoring my comment. I rolled my eyes and turned to look at a few more pictures.
"You boys aren't planning to go out to Blackwater Ridge by any chance." somone asked. We all turned to see a ranger drinking some coffee by the front counter.
"Oh no sir, we're enviormental study majors from UC Boulder. Just working on a paper." Sam laughed lightly. Dean put his hand in the air, grinning.
"Recycle man." he cheered slightly. I rolled my eyes at them.
"Bull." the ranger said simply. I snickered at the rangers response "Your friends with that Haley girl right?" he asked. I turned around my interest piqued. I shared a look with Dean, we seemed to come to the same conclusion.
"Yes, yes we are Ranger..." Dean trailed off. I looked at his name tag.
"Wilkinson." I finished for him, Dean nudged me, letting me know he got it.
"Yup we're good friends." Dean continued.
"Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?" Wilkinson asked. I slightly shook my head with a muttered 'no'. "You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine."
    "Will do." I smiled.
"Yea, we will. Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?" Dean stated.
"That is putting it mildly." Wilkinson scoffed.
"Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date." Dean said. The ranger eyed him skeptically.
"It might calm her nerves." I added giving the ranger a reassuring smile. Wilkinson glanced at me and nodded. He went to the back room and came back with the papers, handing them to me. "Thank you Ranger." I smiled handing the papers to Dean. We exited the station. Dean laughing at our success.
"What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?" Sam questioned him.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?" Sam continued. We stop at the impala, Dean on the drivers side with me standing next to him, and Sam on the passenger side.
"I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?" Dean shot back, giving him a confused look.
    "What?" Sam asked.
"Since when are you all shoot first ask questions later, anyway?" Dean asked. I looked between the two brothers not wanting to get in the middle of anything.
"Since now." Sam turned away from his brother and opened up the car door.
"Really?" Dean mumbled, getting in the impala. I sighed, since being with the Winchesters I realized they argue a lot. What did I get myself into?
