Scarlett
"Catch her!" I heard the men yell.
I was afraid to look back. I had to keep running till I found somewhere to hide. I was going to make it! About twenty men were running after me. None of them had been able to catch me. They wanted to end me. They wanted to end my nightmare called a life. I couldn't die. Not until I knew the truth.
The people of Daltimore wanted me dead. I've always been framed by different people since I became a teenager. Apparently, this was my last straw. If I didn't escape, they'd have had me decapitated. I was accused of the crime of attempted murder. Of course, it was a set up. Someone had me deliver fruits to a noble's house. I was so determined to earn money that I did not notice that it was a trap to get me killed.
My legs were getting weak. My throat was severely parched. My eyes burned. Every nerve in my body screamed STOP but I knew I was going to be burned alive if I ever stopped.
I forced my legs to keep running... Not until I bumped into something, completely knocking me off balance as I fell to the ground. Almost immediately, I stood back up, forgetting my body's present predicament. A growl emitted from the throat of whatever I had bumped into.
The sound of several men yelling behind me was getting louder. I looked back slowly. They were closing up the space between me and them. I had to keep running or I was going to die. I looked up at whatever I had bumped into. Well, it wasn't something, it was someone.
Mine, as well as every other person's body went rigid.
Vampire.
My heart beat furiously against my rib cage as I made eye contact with the massive vampire. He growled once again and said,
"What the fuck is going on here?" He snapped, looking back at me.
He was met with silence as fear consumed everyone. I clenched my fists but did not speak. If a word slipped from my lips, it was not going to be polite and this creature could kill me faster than these people.
"Speak or I won't hesitate to rip off your heads". He threatened.
After a few seconds of consuming silence, someone stepped out.
"This young lady escaped from the dungeon a few hours before her execution was to take place". The man said boldly.
The vampire looked at me. His eyes were cold and calculating. He was extremely good looking. It was an undeniable fact that vampires were dangerously beautiful creatures. Beauty ran deep in their blood. It was a pity that their beauty contrasted their behaviour. They were just too brutal.
Vampires visited Daltimore town every three months for the blood donation event. It was included in a treaty Daltimore signed with the vampires. Apart from the blood donation event, there was also a voluntary slave attainment event. The slave attainment event was when humans from the age of twenty five to thirty volunteered to be vampire slaves. It was not exactly voluntary, though. Most of them were compelled to do it. Because we all know no one was going to volunteer to be a vampire's slave. Humans cherished freedom, but thanks to the treaty, Daltimore was not attacked by vampires and they also offered extra security.
The vampire gripped my hair tightly. I let out a pained squeal at the impact but still managed to keep my cool.
"Let go of my hair, blood sucking freak!". I yelled.
Maybe I should not have said that.
His chest reverberated with fury but he did let my hair go.
"Hmm, feisty human. A little punishment is all it takes to break humans like you". He told me.
