Brandon and I looked at one another in shock. It was actually negative. I couldn't believe it. But if I wasn't pregnant, then why was I sick.
"Hold on, Brandon. I still don't know what's wrong with me." I told him and his surprise turned to confusion.
"That's right. They didn't tell you what was wrong." Brandon scratched his nose and began to open the door.
"Let's go back in. We'll get you another check-up." Brandon suggested and I agreed. We both got out of his truck and head back to the doctor's office."Didn't we just see you two?" The receptionist asked. She slid the sign-in sheet across the table.
"Yes, but they didn't tell me what was wrong. I'd just like to speak to my nurse again." I explained and she understood.
"Let me call her." The receptionist said and dialed a few numbers.
"Marla, you have a patient requesting an immediate follow-up. Please report to the front desk." She hung up the phone and asked Brandon and I to sit in the waiting room.
"Thank you." I told her and Brandon and I sat down.A few minutes later, I heard the same nurse who helped me the first time call my name.
"Ms. Frank." She said and Brandon and I stood up and followed her into the patient's area."Now, what is wrong?" She asked and seated me onto a vinyl bed covered in paper. Brandon sat across the room in a stool. I handed the results that she'd given me earlier back to her.
"I'm still sick, but these results say that I'm not pregnant, so what must be wrong?" I explained the issue and she grimaced. She opened the envelope and peered down at the results. She gasped and stepped out of the room.
"I'm so sorry, Ms. Frank. I'll be right back." The nurse scurried out of the room and down the hall.
"What do you think is wrong?" I asked Brandon. He shrugged his shoulders.
"I have no idea, Joey. It could be anything." He responded and slouched down in his chair. Brandon and I waited patiently for the nurse to come back. It seemed like an eternity. I just wanted to know what was wrong with me and here Brandon is telling me that it could be anything.A few minutes later, the nurse returned with two envelopes.
"Ms. Frank, I can't express how sorry I am for my mistake." She was on the verge of tears as she wiped at her eyes.
"What did you do?" I spoke softly with concern. She shook her head and handed me a different envelope than the first one she'd given.
"I screwed up and gave you the wrong test results. I am so sorry for my mistake." She said and looked at me with shame. If she gave the wrong results did that mean I was...Brandon jumped in his seat at the news and looked at me. His eyes grew red as he realized what this meant. I took the envelope from the nurse and opened it slowly. Unfolding the papers inside, my heart sank. Brandon noticed.
"What is it?" Brandon asked me as the nurse stepped out of the room. He already knew the answer and so did I.
"Positive. 2 1/2 weeks." I weeks and started to cry.
