Andi sat down on a fountain that was in the middle of the shopping square and read her book. A few words she couldn't read, as she only learned she could read the day before.
The Schuyler sisters walked out of the shop with Andi's dress in Peggy's arms. They looked around the square for Andi, until they found her sitting on the fountain reading a book. Angelica immediately recognized the book she was reading.
Peggy and Eliza marched up to the fountain and sat next to Andi. Andi was so lost into her book that she didn't notice two girls sitting next to her, reading over her shoulder.
"Hi!" Eliza said, startling Andi. Andi jumped a bit and nearly dropped her book. She whipped her head around to face Eliza, her hair whipping Peggy in the process.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" She yelped as her hair smacked Peggy. "Please forgive me I-"
"It's fine, Eliza does it to me all the time!" Peggy assured her. She and Eliza smiled, and they sat in an awkward silence, making Andi uncomfortable.
"I really should be going-" Andi said after a moment, closing her book and standing up.
Eliza grabbed her wrist. "No wait!" She let go of he wrist. Andi stopped and looked at her. "Oh sorry about that... But uhm, we saw you looking at a dress in the store and you seemed to not have enough money- God I'm sounding really rude- but we bought it for you as your dress doesn't seem to be in the best condition!"
Andi stared at the two sisters for a moment. "That was really kind of you but you really didn't have to-"
"No, we did," Peggy protested. "We thought it would be a nice gesture as it seems you just arrived here."
"And you're reading a book I like, so it seems like a nice thing to do," a voice unknown to Andi said. Andi turned around to see a girl in a peach dress behind her with a smile. How long had she been standing there?
"I'm Angelica. These are my sisters, Elizabeth and Margarita," She said.
"You can call us Eliza and Peggy though," Eliza said.
"Uh, well, I'm Andromeda Hamilton, but you can call me Andi," Andi said, her uncomfort going away a bit.
"You have a beautiful name, Andi!" Peggy said and presented the dress to Andi.
"Thank you! You three have lovely names as well!" Andi said, and lifted the dress from Peggy's arms. "Thank you so much for the dress, how could I repay you for it?"
"You could be our friend! Since you just got here, you might need some friends to help you learn New York," Eliza smiled.
"I'd love to be your guy's friend!" Andi said happily. "I'll give you what I think to be my new address, I'm pretty sure we're apartment 130 on Main Street." Andi took a slip of paper from her pocket and wrote it down. She handed it to Peggy and smiled.
"Awesome! We'll write you a letter!" Eliza said and gave Andi a hug.
"That would be nice!" Andi said and tuned to Angelica. "You've read Common Sense?"
"Of course, it's my favorite!" Angelica smiled.
"I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT!" A male voice shouted. Andi immediately knew who it belonged to.
She sighed and looked down. "I have to go take care of something. It was nice meeting you guys! I'll wait for a letter!" Andi called and began to walk away.
She raced to where she heard Alexander's voice, her book in dress cradled in her arms. It was nearly sunset. "I may not live to see our glory," she hear her brother say. Three men repeated it, one sounding close to the tailor's voice, and one French sounding. The other one, she didn't know if he had an accent or not.
Andi found them, and stood behind the tailor. "But I will gladly join the fight," Alexander said, the three men repeating him. "And when our children tell our story, they'll tell the story of tonight." The three men repeated again.
Andi watched as they sat in their chairs and repeated almost everything Alexander said. "They'll tell the story of tonight," they sang as they drank their beers. Andi echoed their tune behind them, causing all four of them to jump.
"Andi, there you are!" Alexander said happily. "Come, meet my new friends and have a beer with us!"
Andi sat down next to her brother and placed her stuff in her laps. "Alexander, you're so loud. I heard you before I saw you!" Andi scolded.
"Guys, this is my twin sister, Andromeda," Alexander said over her. He put his free arm around her shoulders and squeezed her close to him.
"Call me Andi," She smiled and turned to face the three men. She locked eyes with one of the men and smiled. "Hello!"
"Bonsoir, Mademoiselle Hamilton," He said and smiled.
"That's Lafayette. He has a first name but he has like, seven of them," Alexander said and pointed to the man Andi had spoken to.
"You're the tailor from the dress shop!" Andi said to one of the men once she got a good look at him.
"Ah yes! The Schuyler sisters bought the dress for you, and I see you've received it," he said. "Hercules Mulligan. You can write me a letter any time," he added with a wink.
Andi smiled, and Alexander sent him a death stare. "And who might you be?" Andi asked with a smile and turned to the other man.
"John Laurens, pleasure to meet you, Andi," John said and extended his hand. Andi shook it and smiled at him.
"Excuse moi, can we have a beer for ze lady, oui?" Lafayette asked as a waitress passed by. She nodded and walked away.
"Thank you, monsieur Lafayette," Andi smiled with a nod.
"My pleasure, Andromeda," He said. They way he said her full name gave her butterflies.
"Monsieur, please call me Andi," she smiled. The waitress walked back over and placed a beer on the table. "Thank you."
Andi sipped on her beer as Alexander talked to his friends. Lafayette's accent amused Andi. She and Alexander spoke fluent in French, but none of the twins could pull a convincing accent. A few beers and hours later, Alexander and Andi decided that they'd have to find their apartment.
"Good night!" Andi called as they left.
"Until we meet again, chérie!" Lafayette called after them as they walked away.
Alexander put his arm under Andi's to keep her standing up, she had never had drank a full beer before. Thoughts of Lafayette flooded Andi's mind. She definitely wanted to get to know him better.
