"Have a good day at work."
Rantaro sighed getting dressed for work. Having to work on your birthday is unfortunate but there was nothing he could do about it. He left his room, his work bag already near the door. A heavy silence filled the apartment only with the sound of slowly dripping rain coming from outside the fogged-up windows. As expected Kokichi was still asleep
Walking past the kitchen he saw a dark purple plastic container with a neon sticky note on top of it. The container being hard to miss based on the contrast to the white tile countertop. Curiosity took over him as he went to investigate it.
He pulled off the bright green note from the container before reading it. "have a good day at work birthday boy!" it said in messy childlike handwriting a small drawing of a cake slice and balloons along with it, and Kokichis bearly legible signature. With a few clicks of the flimsy cover, he opened the plastic box. Inside was a slice of vanilla cake, there were a few strawberries in between the 3 layers and on the top. The frosting looked like a whipped one.
He smiled whether Kokichi took the time to make a cake or he just went to the store to buy one didn't matter, it was the thought that counts. He closed the container before putting it in a bag for easier carry. Maybe today wouldn't all that miserable.
