Chapter III: checkmater

Checkmate? what could it possibly mean? Richie wandered. Does Jessica know about his feelings for Eddie? but how? the only person who knew was Stan but he couldn't betray him, or could he?

MONDAY

~08:43am~

BIOLOGY CLASS

Richie entered into the classroom with no emotions on his face late as always and fortunately the teacher wasn't already there. He tried his best not to look at Eddie who was seating in the front row when he was walking by to seat in the back. As he sat down Eddie turned around to check on him real quick looking confused because he usually would make a stupid joke or at least say hey or have a smile. Then he turned again and asked

'are you okay?'

'yeah sorry I'm totally hungover...'he lied, although he have been drinking all weekend, it wasn't the reason he was so upset.

As soon as the teacher arrived she yelled:

'Richard Tozier'

'yes ma'am' he replied as politely as he could.

'at what hour exactly did you come?'

'half past eight sharp ma'am'

'LIAR' she screamed 'I was here five minutes ago and you weren't here so pack your stuff and go to the principle's office for being late and lying.'

Of course he didn't go to the principle's office cause he's not dumb. Instead he went outside and knocked on the window of the classroom in which Stanley usually had his first period. Stanley asked to go to the bathroom and few moments later met him behind the bleachers where Richie was already smoking.

'don't you have a class to be in' Stan asked.

'I was sent to the principle's office'

'this early? I'm impressed ' he laughed

Richie laughed and took one last puff before dropping his cigarette on the ground.

'hey stan, I have to ask you somthing'

'Is it about Eddie...' he rolled his eyes.

'yeah I don't know , kinda' he rumbled 'have you, have you recently talked to that Jessica girl?'

'yeah I saw her at the party with Eddie but I'm sure it's nothing serious'

'nah it's not about that...' for a moment he was floundering if he should tell him 'well, it just seems that she knows that i have a crush on Eddie'

'I swear to god I haven't told it to anybody'

'then I don't know, is that obvious that I'm into him?'

'what did she say? maybe you just misunderstood her?'

'we were about to go to my place then she appeared out of nowhere whispered something in his ear then she told me checkmate and they ran away together'

'maybe you two bet on something and you don't remember' Stanley suggested.

'whatever...'

SAME DAY

~12:06am~

AT LUNCH

'hey rich' said Eddie when he sat down next to him 'that ole toad gave us homework for next week'

'great' he sighed looking at his disgusting lunch.

'wanna come over after school and study together?'

Richie was considering not coming but then he looked up at Eddie's beautiful face smiling at him and felt his heart beating faster and just couldn't refuse to him.

'yeah sure, how about wednesday'

'okay'

'speaking of coming over' said Ben all exited 'my parents will be out this weekend...'

'you wanna throw a party?' exclaimed Beverly.

'I was thinking more of like a little get together between us, and don't worry Eddie you can sleepover at my place if you want to' said Ben

'cool' he replied.

'I-I think w-w-e're all g-going to' said bill.

WEDNESDAY

AT EDDIE'S

'hey Richie, so what's the difference between a vein and an artery again?' asked Eddie for the second time now.

'I've already told you' he said irritated but glad to help 'arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood to the heart.

'hey Eds-'

'don't call me that' he interrupted him'

'whatever' Richie rolled his eyes 'so is it serious between you and that blonde chick from the party'

'why you ask? are you jealous?' he said raising his eyebrow.

At first Richie thought that he meant jealous of her.

  'you know she's not my type... I'm more into your mom'

'shut up'
