Rose hugged her knees in the corner of a glass cage, ignoring the food on the tray next to her. She could hear so many cries and screams coming from down the hallway of this place she is kept prisoner in.
It didn't look like a prison, it looked like a hospital... Only with cages and frightened people locked up with nothing but a bed, toilet, and food.
The teenager's breath shuddered, her heart raced, her hands sweat, and her stomach churned. Rose is terrified for her life right now.
For the past week, she has seen young people pass her glass cell and through double doors. After a while, they didn't come back out.
Rose is so stressed, she bit the dead skin on her bottom lip, picked her fingernails, scratched her head, and bit the insides of her cheeks. The more she heard people yell for help through those double doors, she grew more anxious. She wanted out of her. "Please, please, please..." She whispered, rocking back and forth on the floor in a fetal position. She plugged her ears, tightly shut her eyes, and told herself everything will be okay. "Please... Everything will be okay." Her voice broke.
Another scream came from the room and went dead silent. Rose lifts her head up, crawls to the glass cage, hears the double doors burst open, and sees a gurney being rolled by two scientists. This gurney had a limp body lying across it with a fresh white sheet covering it. It's being rolled down the hall to another set of doors.
Rose gasped, falling back on her rear and backing up into the corner. "No..."
Then she hears a voice over the speaker on the ceiling. "Eric Sacks, you're needed in the lab."
That's the very first time Rose has heard that name. Who is Sacks? She waited patiently, listening to her surroundings.
There's just silence and all she could hear is her heavy breathing.
Moments later, Rose barely heard the other set of double doors open. She backs up closer into the corner of her cell and watched the man himself walk by with a man in a black robe.
Eric Sacks is a middle-aged man with a dark sweater over his body. Following behind him is an Asian man, tall, and bulky with thick scars on his face.
"Where am I?" Rose asked herself quietly, lowering her head into her knees, thinking of April.
April is her best friend. She may be older than Rose, but April O'Neil is more of a friend than any other teenager at school. She's more loyal, very committed to friendship, and will do anything for Rose.
Rose and April met at a coffee shop just a little ways from Times Square. They were just getting their favorite beverage of choice and began talking to each other in the waiting line. After they realized they had so much in common, Rose decided to move out of her parent's apartment permanently.
She loved her parents a lot, but she felt like she needed to leave the nest a bit early.
But April cares a lot about this girl. She saw her as a little sister.
Coming back to reality, Rose is facing her reality right now. It feels like she is in a nightmare that she can't wake up from.
She has no idea what is about to happen to her behind those doors when they come and get her.
She literally won't know what hit her.
It was maybe another twenty minutes until Rosita heard the first set of double doors open up and saw two scientists, two men in black uniforms, and Eric Sacks. They stood outside her cell while a third scientist punched in the code to her cell door.
The first one to walk in is the man in a dark sweater. Eric comes through the cell and comes up to Rose, causing her to scoot along the floor. "Get away from me." She cowered.
