Last time: At around 1 or 2 in the morning I woke up to an odd smell. I opened my eyes and spotted smoke coming from under my door. I quickly got up and got dressed before opening my door to find the house was on fire!

Josie's POV:

The house was on fire!! I quickly ran to my mum's room only to find she was gone. My mum had told me yesterday that as soon as the meeting was over she was leaving the state, there was a note on her bed which I grabbed. I quickly raced back to my room and slammed my door shut and I raced to the window. I quickly opened it before grabbing my phone and call Miss Tia. As soon as she picked up I told her the house was on fire and I was trapped. She told me to call for help and that she and her family were on their way. I hung up and called 911. I told them my house was on fire and my mum was gone and I was trapped in my bedroom. I also told them that I thought my mum was trying to kill me.

They told me that help was on its way and to stay calm. I hung up and quickly got dressed, packed my pj's and sleeping bag. I then pulled my mattress over to the window and out onto my balcony. I managed to pull it up and over the balcony railing. I watched as it hit the ground. As soon as it was on the ground I ran back into my room and grabbed my two bags. I tied the sleeping bag to one of my bags. I took them out onto the balcony and threw them onto the mattress before throwing my pillow on top. I then took out the note and read it. The letter proved that what I had told the emergency phone line operator was true. My mum did want to kill me.

I folded the letter back up and put it in my pocket. I heard sirens coming closer. "Josie! Josie!" I heard my name being called. I quickly looked around to spot the twins Kanani and Moe. "Over here!" I yelled. "Mum she's over here!" shouted Moe. The twins raced over so they were underneath my window. "Josie, it's going to be okay, climb over the railing and sit on the balcony edge, you're going to have to jump! We'll catch you" said Kanani. I nodded and did as he told me to do. By this time Tania, Mariah and Miss Tia had come over. I closed my eyes and pushed myself off the balcony. I felt arms catch me and I opened my eyes to find that the twins had caught me like they said they would. They carefully set me on the ground and I grabbed my things. "We'll take the mattress too," said Miss Tia. The twins grabbed the mattress and we quickly went to the front of the house.

By the time we got to the front of the house the firefighters, police and paramedics had arrived. The firefighters spotted us and quickly helped us away from the house. I told them I was the one who called and that there was no one left in the house. I looked around and saw that the police was waking up my neighbours and evacuating them from their houses in case the fire spread.

The twins and I were taken over to the ambulance to be check for smoke inhalation. Since Miss Tia, Tania and Mariah had stayed mostly out front they didn't need to be checked. Miss Tia asked that the girls were checked as well just to be sure. Thankfully I was the only one that was really affected by it, the twins were a bit affected by the smoke. The paramedics told us that two more ambulances were coming to take the twins to hospital as they had a bit of a cough from the smoke.

It was about 10 minutes later that we all arrived at the hospital. Miss Tia and Tania both drove to the hospital (they came in separate cars). Mariah was allowed to come in the ambulance with me as I was too young to be alone. When we arrived the twins and I were taken to private rooms to be examined. We all ended up having Xrays which thankfully came back showing no signs of lung damage. Miss Tia asked if once the examinations were done if we could all be put in the same recovery room so we could stay together. Thankfully the hospital agreed and we were put in the same room. By the time the doctors had finished examining us, it was 3 in the morning

We were told to try to get some sleep by the doctors. Miss Tia had brought my pillow and the bag that had my pyjamas in it with her and I was able to get into them. I joked with the twins that they had to deal with trying to sleep in their day clothes while I got to get back into my pj's. My comment made them, Mariah, Tania and Miss Tia laugh. Sadly the doctors said that Miss Tia, Tania and Mariah couldn't stay the night but they could come back in the morning. I was thankful to have the twins still. It didn't take long for us to fall asleep.

I woke up at around 7 and I was surprised that I had slept through my usual wake up time. I was thankful that Miss Tia had left my bag on the table next to me when she left earlier. I got out my phone, charger and book. After putting my phone on charge using the power points by the bed I picked up my book and started reading. It was about 1/2 an hour later that the twins woke up. They were a bit surprised to see me already awake but they then remembered what I had told them yesterday. After saying a very sleepy good morning both twins went on their phones.

It wasn't long before a doctor came to see us and told us that there was a police officer who wanted to speak to us about last night. Moe asked if their mum could come and be here for the meeting. The doctor agreed and Kanani sent Miss Tia a text about the police officer. About 15 minutes later Miss Tia arrived and the police officer came into our room. She asked questions about the fire and asked me about the abuse. I told her the truth and handed over the letter my mum had left for me. Miss Tia told the officer about my phone call and waking the family and coming to help me. The twins then told her about being woken up and racing to come and help me. They told her about getting me to jump off the balcony and about how they caught me.

The police officer nodded and had written it all down on her note pad. She had (with our permission) recorded the meeting so it could be used in court. She asked if I could read out the letter for the recording which I did. "To the brat who ruined my life. I hope you die in the fire I lit. You should have never been born. Life was great without you. You're the reason James died! From the woman who no longer has to deal with you. P.S go to hell!" I read.

"Take it, the letter I mean. I don't want to see it again" I told the officer. She nodded before putting on plastic gloves so her fingerprints couldn't contaminate the evidence. She put it into an evidence bag and sealed all while explaining what she was doing to the recording device. She thanked us for our help before turning off the recording device and leaving. The twins and I were soon released from the hospital. Miss Tia drove us back to her house. She told me that she was going to get the papers today and take them to the police station so that when they caught my mum, they would be able to get her to sign the papers.

When we arrived Tania and Mariah were waiting for us. They showed me around the house before showing me where I would be sleeping. "As soon as Mom gets custody of you, we can redecorate it," said Mariah. "That would be really nice" I replied smiling. All of my things had already been set up and I got to run and jump on the bed. "It's so soft!" I said. Mariah laughed and came and sat down next to me. I sat up and looked around noticing that Nolly's things had also been set up as well as another dog's things. Before I could say anything Mariah told me that Miss Tia had a surprise waiting for me outside. I followed her outside to find Tania holding onto King's leash. Miss Tia told me that since I was the only one that King opened up to I could take care of him from now on. I was so happy! Tania handed King's leash over to me and he got all excited wagging his tail. I smiled and started patting him.

While Miss Tia was at the hospital this morning with the twins and I, Mariah and Tania had made breakfast for us. It was not long after breakfast that Miss Tia got a call on her work phone about three dogs that had been abandoned and one of them matched Nolly's photo. Tania then explained that they had put up a Facebook post and missing dog posters about Nolly. I was getting my puppy back!
