Adrian's house was always quiet, even with Calista playing music in the driveway and his mom scrubbing dishes in the kitchen. He left his door open all day, like he didn't care if anyone saw what he was doing. Granted, the only thing I ever saw him do was study, but still, back home I couldn't stand to be inside my house for so long, especially if my siblings or parents were home.

There's a few hours until the party that I stupidly invited Iggy to, and I'm sitting in Adrian's bed trying to understand the lecture from my class earlier today. If I'm being completely honest, the reason I have no idea what she was saying was because my thoughts were being completely redirected to Iggy and our talk earlier.

It was like every time he wanted to drop his guard and have a normal conversation his brain had some type of signal and it went up ten times harder. Maybe it was my imagination, but I could've sworn he was going to say yes before he noticed his friends behind me.

"What's going on in that head of yours?" Adrian poked me with the back end of his pencil to get my attention back on him.

"Nothing, just thinking." I said, letting my eyes unfocus from the poster on his wall.

"About?" He didn't look up again from his paper, the pencil in his hand writing at a steady pace.

"Your brother, actually." I glanced back to see his pencil stopped mid-sentence.

"Don't waste your time," He chuckled half-heartedly.

"What do you mean?" I turned towards him, my curiosity peaked.

He mimicked me, putting the pencil down. "Since he's been back he hasn't been the same. I just mean, if he did something rude, don't take it personally."

"He didn't do anything rude," My brows creased.

"Oh, then why are you so zoned out?" The genuine surprise in his voice bothered me more than I wanted to admit.

"I invited him to a party tonight," I shrugged. In reality, though I knew he wouldn't come, I was a little excited at the thought of him in my world for once.

"Good luck with that," Adrian laughed.

"You don't think he'll come?" Because neither do I.

"In the past couple months he's gone to one party, and the only reason he went was because Isaiah and Calista planned it for him." He glanced at the frown on my face. "He's having a hard time adjusting, I think."

"Didn't he go to parties before?"

"He got locked up before he turned sixteen, he didn't exactly have the same teenage experience that we did." When he says it like that it makes me want to cry.

"What did he do to get in there?" I hold back a shiver at what he must have gone through the past couple of years.

"Ask him yourself."

"I did, he won't tell me," I huff.

"Then I think you have your answer."

I don't respond to that, mostly because I don't have an answer. I've never had trouble making friends, but Iggy is proving to be way more difficult than he should be. I want to know more, I want to understand, because other than my pure curiosity with Iggy, there's something else.

You don't get thrown into a cell out of nowhere, so what the hell happened that made him do something bad enough to get discarded like that?

"Any chance you'll have slutty party sex and look a little less uptight?" Liv jokes as she does her makeup in our dorm room.

The floor is a mess of clothes and shoes while we get ready for what's bound to be a boring party if my guest doesn't show up. Frats are basically prep-boys on steroids, meaning someone will grab your ass if you're in a crowded enough hallway.
