Simbang gabi nanaman
Tayo gising na, patulog pa lang ang buwan

In the cold dawn breeze of December, parol's colorful lights dazzling in the place lighting up the streets. People came out of the house for the first Misa de Gallo in this month when people staring to wake up in dawn. Mayuri Chenggo was still half asleep, her brother, Edwardo Chenggo insist her to stay awake even she's asleep.

"ANO NA KUYA?! GISING NA!!!" she shouted

(WHAT NOW, KUYA?! WAKE UP!!!)

"Mayuri..." Edwardo yawned. "Let me sleep in just a few minutes."

Mayuri grabbed her bakya and a loud claps of bakyas echoed through his bedroom.

"Alright..."

Ang simoy ng hangin
Dahan-dahang na humahaplos
Sa mukha ng bawat tao
Bumabagsak-bagsak pa ang mata

In the midway of their way, Mayuri saw Bretton walking alone. Bretton was the siblings best friend since Edwardo had an accident in the rice paddings. Also Bretton and Edwardo has a feelings at each other and Mayuri knows. Edwardo blushed when he saw a glimpse of Bretton.

“Kuya Bretton, are you heading to the church too?” Mayuri asked.

“Yeah, my parents and Francisco went first.” answered Bretton

“Why would you join us? Besides, we’re going to the same church.” She said while the boys blushed so madly.

“S-sure.” He stuttered and walked with them.

"Your crush huh? Can you hold his hand?" she whispered. Edwardo's face was full of crimson red.

Dahan-dahang kumislap
Ang mga ilaw ng tumatandang simbahan
Kung san magkasama tayong nagdasal
At nakinig sa Misa de Gallo

They reached their destination. Mayuri found some seats in the middle row sat beside her brother while he sat with Bretton— the feeling of fluttering hearts with butterflies in the stomach is not helping at all.

"I supposed to be there" Edwardo pouted.

But Mayuri disagreed.

"You supposed to sit him him, though. He's your crush anyways."

Mayuri wasn't helpful, to be honest.

Pagdating ng Ama Namin, ang oras huminto

The boys went silent throughout the mass. The 'Ama Namin' still echoing in church, heart beating fast and blushing hard.

Their hands touched.

Nang magkahawak ang ating mga kamay

Bretton and Edwardo released their hands quickly after the first Ama Namin.

Beating hearts are rhythmic, like a duet I say.
