Adam's POV

It had been a terrible first few days of school. Ever since I joined varsity, the ducks had been going out of their way to avoid me with the exception of Connie and Guy. Connie had come up to me after the first practice to say that she was proud of me for making varsity she was just sad that I wasn't with the ducks anymore. Guy said something similar the next day and explained that Charlie was probably just stressed and would come around soon. I sure hoped so because with Charlie being mad at me none of the ducks would even come near me.

And I knew varsity hated the ducks. So here I was, sitting in the bleachers watching the first JV game on Thursday night, wondering why we were there. It was nearing the end of the second period and so far the ducks were up by 8. I saw Charlie racing towards the goal and he was able to score. Apparently we can't cheer for the JV team's goals as I was pulled back to my seat by Riley for a second time.

"What did I say about cheering for the duckies Banks? Don't be noticeable," Riley leaned down and whispered in my ear. I nodded before tuning my attention back to the start of the third period.

The third period was....rough. To say the least. The Blake team managed to score 8 points in the third period. Still having a one point lead, I was hoping that the ducks could pull through with the win. Charlie was racing down the ice with the puck. I realized that with less than a minute left all they needed to do was to defend the puck.

I could feel the tension on the ice and in the crowd, wondering what would happen. As Charlie was about to shoot, he got tripped and the bears took control of the puck. My breath caught as I realized that the duck's defense was out of position. I could hear Coach Orion yelling for the defense to form up as the bears came flying down the ice. The clock was ticking down. So close to zero. If they could only-no. There's the shot. The shot went in just as the buzzer went off, making it count.

Immediately after the buzzer went I noticed the Riley had just come back from wherever he was and was telling the varsity team to get out of the arena. Confused, I asked Layla what was happening.

"We have practice blondie. Remember?" She laughed and turned back to Riley. I heard her whispering something to him but I couldn't make out any details. It obviously wasn't good because you could see she was upset, doing her best to avoid being heard. Maybe it was about whatever Riley was doing with Nathan earlier. Before I could guess what they were up to we had arrived at the locker room and started to change for a late night practice.

~

I was completely exhausted and there was no doubt that I would sleep well tonight. That was probably-

"What. The. Hell." Riley, being the captain, was leading the team into the locker room when he stopped abruptly. We all were confused until we looked around at the locker room and saw what Riley had seen. Everything was frozen. Our jackets, our change of clothes, even our shoes were covered in ice. I saw Layla trying to calm Riley down before he exploded in the locker room. There was a loud crash and we all looked over to see his varsity jacket shattered on the floor.

Oh ducks. Why did you have to do this? Unless.....maybe that's why Riley was missing earlier. I have to try to talk to them. Apologize maybe? Anything to get the two teams to not hate each other. And I'll try to talk to Riley too. Maybe we can come to some sort of neutrality between the two teams. Even if they hate me right now, I can't lose my friends.
