Layla's POV

"Rye are you sure about this? Can we at least leave them some money? Cause you know that bill is going to be ridiculous," I whispered to Riley as we walked with varsity team into the cafeteria. We were discussing the plan of taking the ducks out to dinner but leaving them with the bill. And I was trying to convince Riley to leave them some money so that they weren't trying to pay off the bill all night.

"Fine," he replied, "we can leave them $400. Sound good? I'm sure we can come up with that no problem okay Lays?"

"Yeah okay whatever I just feel bad now. I didn't know we were taking them to the really expensive restaurant though. I thought it was just the burger place downtown. That would have only been like $100."

"I know. Sorry change of plans. Oh and don't tell Banks alright? I don't want him to tell the ducks and have them bring money."

"Whatever you say." I told him that but in my head I knew that Banks should know. But I didn't want to go against Riley and I didn't want to make him mad. So I decided to go along with his plan.

As we approached the ducks in the cafeteria, Riley began his big announcement.

"Congrats on the Blake game," he started.

"We tied," retorted Charlie angrily.

"Hey a ties a tie. We're all warriors now. Say, do you guys like steak and seafood?"

"Yeah we do," the team replied.

"Well then we're taking you out to dinner tonight. If you need a ride we'll pick you up at 6:30. If not be downtown at Land and Water by 7:00." He then turned from the table and started walking away with the varsity team in tow. I heard Banks tell them it was cool with several of them deciding to attend upon that comment. Oh what he doesn't know.

The rest of the school day was uneventful with only the varsity team coordinating rides to the restaurant. I was going with Riley, Scooter, and somehow Banks. Probably so one of the other players didn't say anything about our plan on accident. We got to the restaurant and down. It was a really nice dinner, with both teams getting along fairly well.

Then came the surprise. Riley stood up and announced that the varsity team had one last surprise for the ducks and with that we walked out of the restaurant. Earlier that night, I had told Banks of our plan to leave them with $400. Turns out he had an additional hundred dollars after he heard where we were going to eat and nobody had told him not to bring money. Banks had written check the plates on a napkin which should lead the to the $500 we had in total.

I could hear the excited chatter among the ducks as we walked out of the restaurant.

"Hey Layla why did we put $500 under that plate? And why did I drop that napkin to Charlie? And where are we going?" Banks started questioning me.

"You can't go back in there but we're leaving them here to work off the dinner bill. We gave them the $500 to help and hopefully they trust you enough to check the plates." I told him before grabbing his arm to stop him from going back in. "Blondie you can't go back now. The cakes probably already there. It's better to let them process it and calm down before you try and talk to them."

"Okay...I guess you're right. Thanks shortie I'll try to talk to them tomorrow."

"Anytime Blondie just make sure you don't get a black eye when you talk to them. That wouldn't look right. If you're gonna get punched make sure I'm there to see." And with that we slipped into the car and drove off back to our dorms.
