Hermione, Ron, Harry and I, along with the other first years, had just finished our final exams. "I'd always heard Hogwarts end of year exams were frightful, but I found that rather enjoyable." Hermione said, as we walked across the courtyard. "Speak for yourself. Alright there Harry?" Ron asked him. "My scar, it keeps burning." He answered. "Mine too." I added. "It's happened before hasn't it?" Hermione asked. "Not like this." We answered in unison. "Perhaps you two should see the nurse?" Ron said, in a worried tone. "I think it's a warning. It means danger is coming." Harry informed us. As we approached Hagrid's hut, he was playing the flute. "Of course!" I said. "What?" Hermione responded. "Don't you think it's a bit odd that what Hagrid wants more than anything is a dragon, and a stranger turns up and just happens to have one?" I asked the others. "I mean how many people wander around with dragon eggs in their pockets. Why didn't we see it before!" Harry added on. We marched up to Hagrid in a group. "Hagrid! Who gave you the dragon egg? What did he look like?" I asked him. "I dunno. I never saw his face, he kept his hood up." He replied. "This stranger though, you and him must have talked?" Harry asked. "Well, he wanted to know what sort of creatures I looked after, I told him, I said after Fluffy, a dragons gonna be no problem!" He sniggered. "Did he seem interested in Fluffy?" I asked, almost interrogating him now. "Well of course he was interested in Fluffy. How often do you come across a three headed dog, even if you're in the trade. But I told him, I said, the truck with any beast is to know how to calm it. Take Fluffy for example, just play him a bit of music and he falls straight to sleep!" Hagrid soon realised what he had just said. "I shouldn't have told you that." He added. Hermione, Ron, Harry and I ran off, with Hagrid calling after us.
We ran straight to Professor McGonagall's office. "We have to see Professor Dumbledore! Immediately!" Harry started. "I'm afraid Professor Dumbledore is not here. He received an urgent owl from the Ministry of Magic, and left immediately for London." She informed us. "He's gone?" Harry and I said together. "But this is important! This is about the philosopher's stone!" Harry said to McGonagall. She looked up at us instantly. "How do you know-" She started. "Someone's going to try and steal it!" I interrupted her. " I don't know how you three found out about the stone, but I can assure you it is very well protected. Now would you go back to your dormitories. Quietly." and with that, we left into the corridor. It wasn't long before Harry began coming up with theories.
"It was no stranger Hagrid met in the village. It was Snape, which means he knows how to get past Fluffy." Harry went on. "And with Dumbledore gone..." Hermione added. A familiar monotone voice came from behind us. "Good afternoon." Snape began. "Now what would four young gryffindors such as yourselves be doing inside on a day like this?" He asked us. "I-I... we were just..." Hermione started to explain. "Be careful. People will think you're... up to something." And with that, he turned and left.
"Now what do we do?" Ron asked us. "We go down the trap door. Tonight." I said.
Later that night in the Gryffindor common room, Hermione, Ron, Harry and I were ready to head off to save the world. Just as we went to leave, we saw Trevor. "Trevor! Go! You shouldn't be here!" Ron said to the toad. "Neither should you." Said Neville, standing up from the chair. We hadn't noticed him before now. "You're sneaking out again, aren't you!" He said. "Now Neville, listen, we were-" I said, before being interrupted. "NO!" He started. "I won't let you! You'll get gryffindor into trouble again! I-I'll fight you!" He said firmly, but nervously. "Neville, I'm really really sorry about this," Hermione started. "Petrificus Totalus." She pointed her wand at Neville, and he froze, and fell to the ground.
