[THIS IS NOT PART OF THE STORY]

[just an extended author's note]

Wow! This was the longest fanfiction I've ever written, and the only non-oneshot I've finished. Even if it's for nobody but myself, I'd like to take time to record my journey with this story!

It was inspired by a song of course. "Feel good" ft Daya. I really wanted to include a scene where Rouge and Knuckles held hands during a battle, but that didn't end up happening!

The story originally was bare bones.

Rouge gets hurt and can't fly

Knuckles is concerned. He walks her home a lot.

The plane ride was planned from the very beginning!

Then Rouge would get better and thank Knuckles by kissing him.

Along the way I added flowers on her bedside table, but realized it didn't make sense for any of the introduced characters to place them there. So the stalker storyline was born. No, I couldn't just delete the part about the flowers. They were already there, so New Character it was.

I also hadn't planned on making Rouge a stubborn bat who didn't confide in her friends about the stalker. The story outline had her just hearing mechanical noises after the ladder day. But I realized it would be out of character for Rouge to not investigate and find the camera drone right then. But then the timeline didn't make sense! Why would they have a lighthearted plane ride and sleepover while Rouge had a dangerous stalker after her? So she had to be obstinate to cover for my story oversight. Sorry Rouge!

After she discovered the drone, she was supposed to ask Tails to find info on the owner, and Sonic would have been at Tails' house. But now that Rouge was being all independent, I had her go to the tech shop instead. Luckily I was still able to fit Sonic in. I also used Sonic to help Rouge's character arc finish with her trusting and confiding in her friends.

I'm glad I included her friendships with everyone else in the story, rather than only focusing on Knuckles, Those were some of my favorite scenes to write.

About Fly Fletcher—

He was made on a whim, every detail about him was made up on the spot. Wolf? Because they're threatening. Tall? More intimidating. The name is meant to allude to him being a "fly on the wall" with his camera and audio bugs, and the last name is just supposed to sound like lecher. I did minimal research on stalkers before writing his chapter.

I also had to research how to write a kiss scene. I've never kissed anyone before, and I'm personally touch-repulsed, but I knew the kiss was important to cement their relationship. So I soldiered through it. Please don't make me re read that horrendous paragraph. But I hope you liked it.

My little brothers listened to my story. Their critique helped me tweak a few things, but the biggest change they oversaw was in chapter two, when Amy and Rouge are chatting about Knuckles.

I love a good scheming lady, so the scene went like this —

"No, there's nothing going on. At least that's what he thinks." Rouge knew Amy would catch on quickly if she hadn't already. They grinned at each other.

"I see how it is. You've been hamming it up for his attention." Amy smirked.

Rouge conceded. "So what if I get a little teary-eyed about my horrible, life-changing injury when he's here? After all, I am a damsel in distress. It's only natural I would want to find solace in the arms of my knight in shining armor, who carried me to safety and overlooks my healing." She clasped her hands and gave her best sad maiden impression. Amy and Rouge laughed together. They were on the same wily wavelength.

"That's a good plan. Guys love to be the heroes, Sonic certainly does," Amy commented snidely.

"I'm counting on that. Of course I don't NEED tricks to make Knuckles fall for me, but it should help move the process along since he's so dense." Rouge had been trying to catch the heart of the echidna for a long time, even before she had joined the team. If she could use this injury to help her case, then she would take full advantage of it.

Right then the doctor came in, and the girls immediately stopped their dialogue. Amy quickly left so that the doctor could examine Rouge's progress in peace...

My brothers didn't like that. They thought it should be more wholesome. In the end, they were right, and the actual scene turned out cuter and more natural. But I still like this version! <3

Overall, this was a fun experience, and I'll definitely write more in the future. So if you liked this fanfiction, stay tuned!

Thank you for reading!
