nini felt someone nudge her shoulder softly and moved around before opening her eyes to see the bright airplane lights shining over her
she hears the seatbelt sign go off and looks to her right to see one of her mothers, carol smiling at her
"we're almost landing honey," carol says
the brunette girl sighs as she stretches her arms and looks to her right to see the utah city lights shining below her
she was now moving to a new town, going to a new school, and she even had to have new friends.
nini wasn't necessarily pleased about it, but she always believed that everything happens for a reason, plus she was at least happy to see ashlyn more often and be able to go to east high
once the plane lands and comes to a stop, nini gets up from her seat with her moms as they all take their belongings and carry-on luggage before making their way out
the drive was with nini putting her earbuds in and watching the unfamiliar surroundings pass by her
the car comes to a stop after fifteen minutes and carol and dana turn back to her
"alright honey, we're here." dana smiles as they all unbuckle their seatbelts and step out
nini took in the wooden home before her while taking her suitcase and boxes out of the car
they entered the house and it definitely wasn't like new york city. they lived in an apartment there, and she's never really seen a backyard before, apart from in the movies
after an hour of unpacking and putting all of the things she had with her away, she grabs her phone to face-time madison
"already bored without me huh?" madison smirks when her face comes into view
nini laughs as she jumps on the empty bed "it's so weird. there's no noise!"
madison laughs "well, maybe it was your moms' plan so that you don't have any excuses for staying up late and doing your homework."
the girl rolls her eyes while her best friend continues to laugh
"so, are you still hung up on that guy?" madison asks
nini scoffs "way to beat around the bush mads."
"i'm serious! you wouldn't tell us anything! like i don't even know his name and when your best friend has a hot summer romance, you kind of need to know!" madison defends
nini giggles while shaking her head "i'm not one to kiss and tell. plus i did tell you guys one thing!"
madison groans "oh yeah, the stupid agreement you guys made to 'leave it to the universe' and not keep each other's numbers or socials. no offense neens, but it's really dumb."
"it is not dumb! we just wanted that summer to be - just us? and plus, he's certain that we're going to see each other soon. i just hope he's right." she sighs
madison nods "okay then. oh! aren't you going to go to a public school now?"
nini nods "yeah, east high. high school musical's school! i'm so excited!" she squeals
"can you please not start singing 'when there was me and you' in the hallways? i mean, i love your singing voice and the way you break out into song over nothing, but-"
nini giggles and shakes her head "you're annoying."
madison smirks while they continue to talk about anything and everything

ricky threw his clothes into his closet as he unpacked his suitcase
he took each object, putting them back in their previous place before slumping on his bed and going on his phone
after a few minutes, he finds himself scrolling through pictures he took with her during the summer
he sighs and feels the regret of not keeping each other's numbers or at least having her on social media
but at the same time, he knew that the ricky she met in california was definitely not the ricky in salt lake city. she knew the real him, and that's the one things he loved about her. she was able to see him for him.
suddenly, he sees texts from his friends, making him sigh in slight annoyance before opening it
ricky lets out a breath and lies back on his bed
he was back in salt lake city alright.
