Warmth

Today was the first day it was warm this year. Winter was too long. I never liked winter anyway. It was so cold, and I prefer the warmth of summer. In summer I can spend time outside with Kiara.

We had planned on having a picnic in the woods near The Palace today, but Kiara insisted that I wear something other than my normal staff uniform. When she told me to borrow one of her dresses I laughed, until I realized she was being serious. Once she convinced me that I wouldn't look dumb, I finally agreed. Being a Princess in the year two thousand eighteen (2018) meant that she owned a lot of dresses, which she wore almost every day. She picked a dress out of her closet and handed it over the changing area wall to me, so I could put it on. That was about twelve minutes ago.

"What are you doing in there?" Kiara shouted from the other side of the changing area. I guess I was taking a long time, or maybe Kiara was just being impatient, like always. These dresses took way too long to put on.

"One second!" I shouted back, pulling on the sleeves of one of her gowns, trying to keep it from rolling up my arm. "How do you wear these every day?" I asked, genuinely confused.

"It takes lots of practice." she replied, laughing at me. "Let me see!" she said, excited to see how ridiculous I looked. I was not so excited about it. I walked around the corner and to my surprise, she didn't laugh at me. She just stared, which was almost worse.

"So, what do you think?" I asked, scared for her answer. She had given me a light blue sundress with poppies and ivy embroidered on it. It was about knee length and matched my eyes perfectly.

"I think you look beautiful." she stated, looking me up and down. I turned around to hide my face from her, but she saw me blushing. I spun to face the mirror on her wall, and looked myself up and down. I do look beautiful, I thought to myself. I turned to her.

"Well, now you have to put on a dress." I said, trying to get the focus off of me in this dress. I felt good about it, but I didn't want anyone else to see me in it. I guess I care what people think, even if I say I don't.

"Fine. I'll be out in a minute." Kiara said, making her way behind the divider. I slowly turned back to the mirror and looked at myself. I pulled the dress up at the chest, making sure nothing was showing.

A few years ago I had a growth spurt, so all my uniforms were too small. One day I was helping my sister with cleaning up after Kalen, and when I bent down to pick up a bag of chips he had left on the ground, and my top ripped. Ever since then, I have been cautious of what I put on. Good thing Kiara and I were the same size.

People have made comments on her body in the past, calling her "fat black girl" or telling her that she needs to stop eating so she can be pretty. It always makes her cry. She cares too much about what people say. I always tell her that she is beautiful and that she shouldn't care what people think, because she is gorgeous and she deserves the world.

"I'm coming out." Kiara said, walking around so she was in my view. She looked stunning. She was wearing a green sundress with a design on it. It was shorter than mine, but it matched her personality. The sleeves were small and ruffled, showing off her arm muscles.

For a moment I didn't say anything, and I just looked at her. She looked like a goddess. "You look ama- I mean gorgeous, you look perfect." I said, stumbling over my words as I tried to explain how beautiful she looked. She smiled at me, and walked over to her vanity, picking up a small bag of makeup. She made her way back over to me and playfully pushed me onto her bed. I laughed at her and scooted back to where I was laying on the pillows.

She sat down next to me and pulled a small eyeshadow palette and a lip gloss out of the bag. She moved close to me and straddled my torso, she leaned over my fave, and began to apple eyeshadow to my lids. When she was finished, I opened my eyes to see her close to my face. I felt her breath against my cheeks, and smiled.

"Stop smiling!" she said while laughing at me. "You know that I can't put on your lipgloss when you are smiling." she continued as I giggled at her. She leant back over me and began to apply my lipgloss. When I looked at her, I felt a warmth in my stomach, a good warmth. She looked focused and I watched her face as she took her time. When she was finished, she sat up and looked at her work.

My eye shadow was light yellow with white eyeliner going out with wings on the side of my eyes. My lipgloss was a light bubblegum pink that worked well with my skin tone. Kiara was good with makeup, and was very proud of it. She got off me and grabbed her bag, made her way to the vanity, where she applied all her makeup under five minutes. When she was done, she laughed at me for watching her do her makeup. And pulled me out of her room.
